If you want premium, immersive sound quality with intelligent active noise cancellation for your daily commute or long rides, choose Bowers & Wilkins PX; if you need a dedicated Bluetooth transmitter to stream high-fidelity audio from older airplane seatbacks or gym equipment to modern headphones, choose Avantree Relay & Voyager.
• Bowers & Wilkins PX: Delivers world-class acoustics with 22 hours of battery life and adaptive noise cancellation that adjusts to your environment; however, it is an on-ear design that might not suit everyone for extended cycling sessions due to pressure points.
• Avantree Relay & Voyager: Features the latest Bluetooth 5.3 chip with aptX Adaptive support for low-latency streaming and a compact OLED display for monitoring connections; yet, it functions strictly as an adapter and requires you to already own a pair of compatible headphones.
• The Verdict: The PX is a complete wireless listening solution for audiophiles, while the Relay & Voyager is a specialized travel tool for connecting legacy audio sources to modern gear.
The Bowers & Wilkins PX is engineered for the listener who prioritizes sonic fidelity above all else. Drawing on decades of acoustic engineering experience, this headphone utilizes 40mm full-range drivers that were originally designed for their high-end P9 Signature models. The result is a soundstage that feels expansive and natural, with drivers subtly angled to provide a stereo perspective that mimics how we hear music in real life. If your primary goal is to hear every nuance in your favorite track, from the subtle brush of a cymbal to the deep resonance of a bass line, this device is built specifically for that purpose.
For the cyclist or commuter looking for extra bass wireless headphones for cycling, the PX offers a compelling proposition through its Adaptive Noise Cancellation. This system doesn't just block out the world; it actively analyzes your surroundings to optimize sound isolation whether you are on a plane, walking down a busy street, or riding through traffic. The ability to pause playback instantly by lifting an ear cup adds a layer of convenience that enhances safety, allowing you to quickly hear approaching vehicles without fumbling for controls. With a 22-hour battery life, it provides enough power for multiple long commutes or a full day of travel before needing a recharge via the included USB-C cable.
However, this product is not a universal fit. Its on-ear design, while stylish and premium, means the pads rest directly on the outer ear rather than enclosing it completely. For some users, this can lead to discomfort during very long sessions, especially if they wear glasses. Furthermore, the latency of 200 milliseconds might be noticeable if you are trying to use these as a wireless gaming headset for cycling in sync with video content, though it remains perfectly acceptable for pure music consumption. It is best suited for adults who value a "set it and forget it" experience where the headphones respond intelligently to being put down or picked up, entering sleep mode automatically to conserve energy.

The Avantree Relay & Voyager serves a very specific niche: it is a bridge between old audio technology and new wireless capabilities. Unlike the Bowers & Wilkins PX, which is a standalone product, this unit is a compact Bluetooth adapter designed to plug into the 3.5mm AUX jack of devices that lack modern wireless connectivity. If you are an avid traveler who frequently flies and wants to enjoy high-quality audio on flights equipped with older seatback systems, this is the essential companion. It transforms any standard analog audio output into a stable Bluetooth 5.3 signal, making it possible to use modern headphones with legacy hardware.
For those seeking a reliable connection, the inclusion of the Qualcomm chipset is a significant advantage. This processor supports aptX Adaptive and aptX Low Latency codecs, ensuring that the audio transmission maintains high fidelity while minimizing the delay between the source and your ears. This makes it a viable option for users who need a wireless gaming headset for cycling or watching videos on a portable screen where lip-sync is critical. The device features a small OLED screen that displays battery levels and connection status, giving you immediate visual feedback on how much power remains and what devices are paired. Its pocket-sized form factor ensures it is truly travel-ready, slipping easily into a jacket pocket or bag alongside your other essentials.
Despite its utility, the Avantree Relay & Voyager has clear limitations that define who should buy it. It is not a headphone; it cannot produce sound on its own. You must already possess a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earbuds to pair with it. Additionally, the product description explicitly notes incompatibility with phones, car stereos, or hearing aids, limiting its use primarily to fixed installations like airplanes, gym machines, or home entertainment systems with analog outputs. It is ideal for the frequent flyer or the tech enthusiast who wants to extend the life of their current headphones without buying a new set, but it offers no value to someone looking for a complete audio package with microphones or active noise cancellation built-in.
• Best for Sound Quality: Bowers & Wilkins PX wins decisively with its custom 40mm drivers and 10Hz to 20kHz frequency range, offering a depth of detail that an adapter simply cannot match.
• Best for Battery Independence: The Bowers & Wilkins PX includes a massive 22-hour battery within the headphones themselves, whereas the Avantree Relay relies on external power or its own internal cell to transmit audio to another device.
• Best for Legacy Connectivity: The Avantree Relay & Voyager is the only choice if you need to connect to older airplane seats, gym treadmills, or non-Bluetooth TVs via a 3.5mm jack.
• Best for Active Noise Control: Only the Bowers & Wilkins PX offers Active Noise Cancellation, which is crucial for blocking out wind and road noise while riding a bike or traveling.
• Best for Latency Performance: While both support low-latency codecs, the Avantree Relay focuses on aptX Low Latency for video sync, whereas the PX has a 200ms latency which is better suited for music than synchronized media.
• Best for Portability: The Avantree Relay is significantly smaller and lighter, designed specifically to be carried in a pocket, while the PX is a substantial pair of headphones that requires a case.
• Best for Safety Awareness: The Bowers & Wilkins PX features sensors that let you lift an ear cup to instantly hear ambient sounds, a feature that is vital for outdoor cycling safety.
• Best Value for Music Lovers: If your goal is simply to listen to music with high fidelity, the Bowers & Wilkins PX is the superior investment as it combines audio hardware and processing in one unit.
I would recommend the Bowers & Wilkins PX for anyone looking to invest in a primary pair of headphones for cycling or daily listening. The combination of adaptive noise cancellation, exceptional driver quality, and smart power management creates a user experience that feels seamless and responsive. While the Avantree Relay & Voyager is a clever tool for travelers with old airplane systems, it is too limited to serve as a main audio device. If you are asking about the best with mic wireless headset for cycling, neither is a perfect fit for calls, but the PX offers the far superior audio platform for enjoying your ride. Ultimately, the PX delivers a complete, high-performance listening experience that transforms how you engage with your environment.
Yes, the PX features adaptive noise cancellation and a 22-hour battery life, making it excellent for blocking out engine noise during long-haul flights without needing frequent recharges.
No, the product data specifies that the Relay is not compatible with phones; it is designed strictly for 3.5mm AUX inputs like those found on airplane seatbacks or gym equipment.
The Bowers & Wilkins PX is superior because it uses high-quality dynamic drivers optimized for natural stereo perspective, whereas the Avantree Relay is just a transmission bridge.
While it uses soft materials, the on-ear design places pressure on the outer ear, so comfort varies by individual; the Avantree Relay avoids this issue entirely since it does not touch your head.
