If you want in ear headphones for streaming that prioritize absolute audio fidelity and seamless music integration, choose Bowers & Wilkins FP39691; if you need bluetooth gaming headphones for streaming with zero downtime and a dedicated ecosystem for multi-platform play, choose SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite. These two devices occupy opposite ends of the spectrum: one is a premium music-centric experience repurposed for high-end listening, while the other is a purpose-built warfare station designed to dominate the competitive landscape without ever needing a charger.
• Bowers & Wilkins FP39691: Delivers world-class acoustic performance with adaptive noise cancellation and smart sensors that pause playback when removed, but lacks the dedicated gaming features and swappable battery system required for marathon sessions.
• SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: Offers the industry's first Hi-Res certified wireless gaming headset with dual-battery swapping and AI microphone rejection, yet sacrifices some portability due to its complex GameHub charging dock.
• The Verdict on Fit: The Bowers & Wilkins is the ideal pick for audiophiles who stream music or podcasts and value sonic purity over tactical utility, whereas the SteelSeries is the definitive choice for content creators who demand crystal-clear voice isolation and continuous uptime across PC, console, and mobile.
The Bowers & Wilkins FP39691 PX is not merely a pair of headphones; it is an engineering statement about how audio should feel in your daily life. If you are looking for bone conduction headphones for streaming, this isn't the device you will find here, but if you seek the most natural stereo perspective possible, these are hard to beat. The design philosophy centers on "feeling more of your music," utilizing drive units borrowed from their P9 Signature series. This means you get optimized listening performance that subtly angles the drivers to create a soundstage that feels less like it's coming from inside your head and more like it's surrounding you. The frequency response spans from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, covering the full spectrum of human hearing with a clarity that makes every instrument distinct.
Who should buy this? You are likely someone who spends significant time consuming high-fidelity audio, whether that is lossless music files, detailed podcasts, or cinematic soundtracks during your streaming workflow. The adaptive noise cancellation is described as perfect for environments ranging from the quiet hum of an office to the roar of a street or plane, ensuring your focus remains on the content. Furthermore, the "PX Responds to You" feature adds a layer of convenience that feels almost magical: lift an ear cup to pause the audio, set them down to sleep, and pick them up to resume instantly. This intuitive UI removes the friction of pressing buttons, making it perfect for a user who wants the technology to fade into the background.

However, you should skip this product if your primary use case involves long-form competitive gaming or non-stop live broadcasting where a wired connection to a specific game engine is critical. While the impedance is a manageable 22 ohms and the Bluetooth 4.1 supports aptX-HD for hi-res streaming, it lacks the low-latency proprietary 2.4GHz dongle found in modern gaming gear. The battery life of up to 22 hours with ANC is respectable, but it does not offer the instant swap capability that defines true all-day endurance. If you need a headset that can be charged mid-session without missing a beat, or if you require a microphone with AI-driven background noise rejection specifically tuned for team communication, this music-first design might leave you wanting more tactical functionality.
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite redefines what a wireless gaming headset can achieve by breaking the traditional barriers between audio fidelity and functional endurance. This is the world's first Hi-Res certified wireless gaming headset, delivering 96kHz/24bit audio over both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connections. The secret sauce lies in the carbon fiber drivers; they are lightweight yet rigid, allowing for faster response times and lower distortion. This pistonic motion, supported by a brass surround, ensures that even the faintest audio cues—like footsteps or reloading sounds—are pinpointed with surgical accuracy. For anyone serious about bluetooth gaming headphones for streaming, this level of detail transforms the experience from simply hearing audio to actually visualizing the battlefield through sound.
Who needs this headset? It is built for the streamer or gamer who cannot afford downtime. The Infinite Power System includes two swappable batteries, meaning one powers the headset while the other charges in the GameHub. You get up to 30 hours per battery, and a mere 15-minute fast charge provides four hours of playtime. This eliminates the anxiety of a dying battery in the middle of a broadcast or a crucial match. Additionally, the OmniPlay technology allows you to mix up to four sources simultaneously—PC, Console, Bluetooth, and Line-in—making it the ultimate hub for a creator juggling multiple devices. The AI Noise Rejection onboard reduces up to 97% of background noise, ensuring your audience hears only your voice, clear and crisp, regardless of the chaos in your room.
The trade-off here is complexity and form factor. To access the full benefits, particularly the battery swapping and OLED control, you must manage the GameHub dock. While the headset itself weighs a manageable 338 grams, the ecosystem requires you to keep the charging base nearby for the best experience. The controls are heavily reliant on the Arctis Companion app for iOS and Android, giving you real-time access to game, Bluetooth, and mic EQs. If you prefer a minimalist approach where everything is controlled via physical buttons on the earcup without needing a smartphone or a dock, this might feel overly engineered. However, for the professional streamer or power user who demands total audio control and unbreakable uptime, the extra setup is a small price to pay for superior performance.
• Best for Battery Endurance → SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: With swappable batteries offering 30 hours each and a 15-minute fast charge capability, it guarantees zero downtime, unlike the single-battery Bowers & Wilkins which caps at 22 hours.
• Best for Audio Fidelity → Bowers & Wilkins FP39691: Leveraging signature drive units and a 20Hz-20kHz range, it offers a more natural, organic soundstage tailored for critical listening and music enjoyment.
• Best for Multi-Source Mixing → SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: Supports up to four simultaneous inputs (PC, Console, BT, Line-in) with seamless switching, a feature absent in the music-focused Bowers model.
• Best for Microphone Clarity → SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: Features onboard AI that rejects up to 97% of background noise, essential for streaming, compared to the standard ANC focus of the Bowers unit.
• Best for Intuitive Physical Controls → Bowers & Wilkins FP39691: Uses smart sensors to pause and sleep automatically when lifted or placed down, removing the need for manual button presses or apps for basic functions.
• Best for High-Res Wireless Gaming → SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: Certified by the Japan Audio Society for 96kHz/24bit audio over wireless, a spec that exceeds the standard Bluetooth capabilities of the Bowers headset.
• Best for Portability → Bowers & Wilkins FP39691: Designed as a standalone travel companion with a protective case, lacking the external GameHub dock required for the SteelSeries battery system.
• Best for Codec Support → SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite: Utilizes the next-gen LC3+ codec for low-latency, high-fidelity transmission, whereas the Bowers relies on Bluetooth 4.1 with aptX-HD.
In my opinion, I would buy the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite for any scenario involving streaming. While the Bowers & Wilkins FP39691 is a masterpiece of music reproduction, the demands of content creation—specifically voice clarity and uninterrupted operation—make the SteelSeries the superior tool. The ability to swap batteries instantly and the AI-driven microphone rejection are not just nice-to-haves; they are essential for maintaining a professional broadcast quality. If your goal is to listen to music on a plane, the Bowers is unmatched, but for building an audience and engaging with viewers, the SteelSeries provides the reliability and technical depth required to succeed.
No, neither the Bowers & Wilkins FP39691 nor the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite uses bone conduction technology. Both are over-ear models with dynamic drivers designed for closed-back isolation rather than open-air audio transmission.
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite wins decisively because it comes with two swappable batteries, providing up to 30 hours per charge with the option to swap instantly. The Bowers & Wilkins offers a solid 22 hours on a single charge but requires you to wait for a recharge once depleted.
Yes, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Elite supports OmniPlay, allowing you to mix up to four sources including Bluetooth and wired inputs simultaneously. The Bowers & Wilkins FP39691 supports Bluetooth connectivity but does not natively support mixing multiple active audio streams in the same way.
You will need the SteelSeries Companion app to fully utilize the EQ settings and microphone adjustments on the Nova Elite, though the hardware functions work independently. The Bowers & Wilkins PX works well out of the box with its sensor controls, but the app is recommended for firmware updates and customizing the adaptive noise cancellation levels.
