The digital catalog of the postdoctoral research project "Bound in Exile," at Lund University, serves as a tool to filter and organize data pertinent to Arabic literature published in Sweden by migrant publishers. The catalog showcases the ongoing findings of the research project and will act as the groundwork for developing insights into the historically, socially, and culturally entangled contexts that shape the creation, development, and reception of this specific literary field in Sweden. "Bound in Exile" is a part of the larger research initiative "Academia and cultural production as postmigrant fields in Sweden."

The catalog's data have been gathered from the National Bibliography of Sweden through the national union catalog LIBRIS. As of December 2024, the earliest digital data on Arabic literature published in Sweden by migrant publishers is 1988. Earlier data have been gathered through physical bibliographical records at the National Library of Sweden as well as other alternative resources. I have limited my searches to what broadly falls under the category of literature (Ar. adab), which according to this working definition includes the three generic categories of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Therefore, the framework and scope of the research project mean that the following material has been excluded from the catalog:

Translation work (e.g. Swedish-Arabic)

Children and Youth's literature

Teaching material, dictionaries, and language learning material (excl. independent pedagogical works published through migrant publishers that are not strictly language learning material)

Journals and Magazines

Civic orientation and governmental publications

University dissertations (excl. those published independently through migrant publishers)
