I am originally from the Philippines and am scientifically trained in South Korea where I am currently based and have been for over 12 years. I also have short-term but extensive research experiences in Japan and Austria.
I am currently working as a visiting PhD fellow in the lab of Prof. Hanseul Yang at KAIST. I am a PhD candidate in veterinary biomedical sciences at Seoul National University. I have strong technical backgrounds in molecular & cell biology, stem cell biology, chemical biology, and bioinformatics (comparative genomics). Outside the lab, I am engaged in community science outreach as an eLife Ambassador, science communicator, and science art enthusiast. I also serve as a freelance expert consultant for biotech/biopharma projects via a research network company.
I am generally interested in exploring evolutionary mechanisms of disease pathobiology and origins by mapping animal genomes and creating stem cell-based tractable models to study their lineages and mechanisms.
I use both experimental and bioinformatics tools to facilitate my projects. In the grander scheme, I am interested in exploring this biology across different animal species to unlock biological innovations in nature and translate them for human medical applications.
