2019 So far

  • Andrew and the Beer Circus https://youtu.be/u9ZF--ECTcc Andrew was in Ballard with the Austin band he manages, Bourgeois Mystics (as in outsourcing spirituality) and he put us on the list. We walked the half-mile from our apartment and spent the afternoon catching up with him and Keith's friend, Kevin, sitting backstage watching the circus performers dress and practice, and then watching the performances. It was great visiting with Andrew and getting close to the music and circus world.
  • 1st Ave Jam: Urban forgaing and its fruits https://youtu.be/G4wmASLz-e8 When Jeni and Yvonne went to Kasala's, Yvonne spotted a densely fruited and ignored blackberry bush at 1st and Holgate in Sodo. We went back a few days later and spent 30 minutes picking enough berries for jam and multiple coblers. What a treat!
  • August Tuesday afternoon at Golden Gardens Beach. We walked west down 57th to Shilsohole, then north past the marina to Golden Gardens Park, sat in our new beach chairs enjoying activity all around us in the warm but not hot sun, then walked back to 65th, up the steps and hill and back home about 4.5 miles round trip . Not crowded, everyone having a nice afternoon.
  • Return to the Islands Four days on Orcas, staying with Chris and Lynn, visiting Ken and Kate, Margaret for lunch on Crane, seeing Janice and Gorden for lunch, attending Jens and Susan's party, a walk around Mountain Lake, climbing Orcas Knob. Then seeing Bonnie, Yvonne's high school friend and her husband, Keith on the north shore of Camano Island.
  • Rosa's birthday celebration. Billy, Billy, and Haley came up from Florida for a week and we celebrated Rosa's 79th.
  • Seattle Art Museum Olympic Sculpture Garden. https://youtu.be/9fIDgWoVBFI A sunny, hot day. We took the bus from Ballard, walked through the outdoor museum and then north along the waterfront. Beautiful!
  • Seattle Seafair Powow https://youtu.be/5KkepRTd3rQ We walked across the Locks and over to Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center next to Discovery Park. Dancing, music, color, vendors, and Indian fry bread tacos - delicious!
  • Yvonne's birthday and Tillicum Village Jen, JC,and Rosa joined Yvonne and John to celebrate Yvonne's 69th at Tillicum Village on Blake Island via an Argosy dinner cruise - with cake at Jen and JC's when we got back to Seattle
  • Deb and Bart visit Ballard We wandered over to the Nordic Museum, Locks, and Farmers Market
  • Ballard Seafoodfest https://youtu.be/pXQD4q2VsnQ Friday music. Jen brings Boulder high school friend Matt. Saturday lutefisk eating competition. Then Saturday evening JC, Jen, Rosa, Matt, Yvonne and John roam around. July 12th-14th

  • Ron and Charmaine visit from Spokane Nordic Museum, Locks, Jen, Ted, and Allison joined us for dinner
  • David visits from Durham He'd been on Mt Rainier, especially the Sunrise area, hiking and taking photographs and stopped overnight before heading back east.

  • Dinner at Greek restaurant Plaka https://youtu.be/kldG0EvBTlE Jeni, Juan Carlos, Rosa, friend Lola, Yvonne and John. The last week for Plaka. Good food, memories, music, dancing, retsina.
  • Fremont Solstice Parade: all events but shortened main event https://youtu.be/FbeUPHiLR4g We met Allison and Ted at their house and walked down hill to the parade route. We were amazed by the parade, walked east to find food and then to Gasworks Park for refreshments. Back up hill, stopping to look at the Aurora Bridge Troll. What a day!

  • Sunset Hill Summer Solstice https://youtu.be/PRtqU1Y5Hq4 Yvonne and I went over to nearby Sunset Hill to watch the summer solstice sunset with several hundred other Seattleites - thinking about our Boulder friends at Panorama Point on Flagstaff at sunrise chanting up the solstice sun - in the rain?

  • Opal's 8th grade promotion https://youtu.be/iRqA7nHlbJ8 NNM&O, Jan, Yvonne and John. Opal gave a Welcome talk and won two prizes: Excellence in science (1 of 6) and Excellence in English/Language Arts (1 of 1) - need to try to improve the audio, especially Opal's speech.
  • Three days celebrating Morgan's graduation https://youtu.be/E2_nrIUAU8Q Friday and Saturday at the Ashenhurst's with lots of family and visitors. Sunday to Harstine Pointe where Jan has her summer home. Noah launched his smooth, quiet, fast, and good-looking boat at Harstine Bridge.

  • Seattle Marathon at Ballard Bridge https://youtu.be/K7T5i32HQBQ The marathon and half-marathon runners turned off Leary and ran south up the ramp to the bridge on their way to Seattle Center, the half way point for the first group and the finish for the second. I was on the bridge well before the lead runner appeared so I had a chance to enjoy being on the bridge with reduced noise and traffic.

  • 27th Chimayo walk 8 of us joined by: Allsion and Gabe; Laura, Langley, and Warren; Michael and Kris
  • Taos, Truchas, Chimayo We joined Barb and Dean at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos Wednesday night. Thursday morning we drove the Taos High Road south and stopped at Truchas to look around. Downhill to Chimayo to check into the Hacienda. Then to the plaza and Sanctuario and later to the Chimayo Museum - before meeting everyone at the Rancho for cocktails.
