Still curious of the nature of the page, the focus of our tale decided to press on, reading on in hopes of learning something of more substance. They found a note from the narrator of the podcast regarding the reasons for its existence. It read as follows:

"When I was only a small child, my mother read to my siblings and me often. We discovered the Harry Potter series together and grew to love the time we spent listening to my mother read.

"There are audiobooks, but I have found they don't quite capture the experience of reading a book aloud as a family. There are often interruptions when someone has to go to the bathroom, or to go back and look at a previous chapter to reference something. Perhaps you all pause after something big happened to talk about it, or you might stop and speculate on what might be coming up next only to be wonderfully surprised at a twist or satisfied when you are proven right.

"I should note here that my mother never read ahead of us as we were reading the Harry Potter books together. We found out what was going to happen together, so it was just as much a surprise to her as it was to us.

"Growing up, I thought the same as most children do, that my experience was universal. After all, in a manner of speaking, our parents model the world for us. It's probably among the most important responsibilities of a parent, modeling the good and wholesome, while keeping firm boundaries for acceptable behavior.

"It wasn't until I was much older that I realized this was not a universal experience. Most people, it seemed to me, actually didn't experience this activity growing up. As such, many people never got the chance to learn to treasure books and the worlds they hold within.

"My purpose in making this podcast, "Books at Bedtime," is to make this experience more readily available to people who grew up without it. Imperfect though it is in recorded form, I hope to give a more personal experience than you'd get from audiobooks."
