Bookmark Cleaner Pro - Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 19, 2026
Bookmark Cleaner Pro is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.
1. Data the Extension Accesses
The extension uses your browser's APIs to read the following data, all of which remains on your device unless you explicitly opt in to AI features (see section 3):
Your browser bookmarks (read, modified, created, or deleted by you within the extension)
Your browsing history (read-only, used to show which bookmarked pages you have visited and your top visited domains)
Preferences you set (theme, density, AI API key, exclude list) - stored only in your browser's local storage
2. Data NOT Collected by the Developer
The extension developer operates no backend servers
We do NOT collect, track, log, or transmit any of your data to any developer-controlled service
No analytics, telemetry, or third-party trackers are used
Your bookmarks and browsing history never leave your device unless you opt in to AI features below
3. Optional AI Features (opt-in)
The extension includes optional AI Organizer features that require you to provide your own API key from one of the supported providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Gemini.
If you enable AI features by entering an API key:
Bookmark titles and sanitized URLs (origin + path only - no query strings, no fragments, no session tokens) are sent directly from your browser to the API provider you selected
The data is sent only when you click an AI action button and confirm the preview
Bookmarks with private or local URLs (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, localhost, *.local) are automatically excluded
You can permanently exclude specific bookmarks from any AI suggestion via the Excluded tab
Your API key is stored only in your browser's local storage. It is never synced, never logged, and never transmitted to the extension developer
The API provider you select processes the request according to their own terms of service and privacy policy (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google)
The developer never has access to the data you send through AI features
4. Local Storage
The extension uses your browser's local storage for:
API key (only if you configure one)
Exclude list of bookmark IDs (only if you exclude bookmarks)
UI preferences (theme, density, view mode)
Temporary undo data for the 10-second undo window after deletions
You can clear all extension data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension storage from chrome://extensions.
5. Required Permissions
bookmarks: To read, organize, and modify your bookmarks (the core purpose of the extension)
history (read-only): To show recently visited bookmarks and aggregate top visited domains
host_permissions: For the Broken Link Finder to check URL status codes, and for optional AI features to reach your selected provider's API
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as features change. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any change.
