Welcome to our course!
Math 152: Analytical Geometry and Calculus II

Hello. I'm Michael Bonner, I am here to help you through Analytical Geometry and Calculus II. I have worked in aerospace for over 33 years helping the US Air Force test their latest aircraft systems. Along the way, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to teach everything from Algebra to 'How GPS works'. I taught my first class for Cerro Coso Community College in the Spring of 2001 and made the switch to teaching full time in 2018. I live in Tehachapi and teach at the Ridgecrest campus and online. I also volunteer to teach some of my classes in the California City and Tehachapi prisons.

Below is some information about our course to help you prepare before the semester starts. The full syllabus is available on our course Canvas site.

How This Course Works

The Essentials

  • You will need a MyMathLab access code for this course; a hard copy of the textbook is optional.

  • There are homework and other assignments every week. They are typically due the following Monday.

  • The best way to reach me is via email or Pronto.

  • It is your responsibility to come to class, check your Cerro Coso email, and regularly monitor the course Canvas site to be notified of changes to the course.

Textbook and Required Materials

Thomas’ Calculus – 14th Edition; Thomas, Weir, Hass & Giordano; ISBN: 9780134768489

(MyMathLab Access Code Required)

This textbook is typically used for all three semesters of Calculus

You must purchase the MyMathLab access code for this course in order to gain access to the assignments. The decision to purchase an actual hardcopy text is left up to the student. For all three of the suggested options below, the purchase of an access code is a requirement.

  • Option 1: Buy the text and Course Access Code together from the Cerro Coso Book Store.

  • Option 2: Buy only the Course Access Code on Math MathLab: http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com
This includes an e-copy of the text accessible via the MyMathLab website.

  • Option 3: Buy the Course Access Code per Option 2 AND buy a hardcopy elsewhere.

Technology Requirements

  • MyMathLab is supported by MS Windows. Cerro Coso is not responsible for MyMathLab's performance on your personal computer, no matter which operating system you use.

  • MyMathLab works well with Google Chrome web browsers. Cerro Coso is not responsible for MyMathLab's performance on your personal computer, no matter which web browser you use.

  • It is recommended that you only take this class only if you have high-speed internet access. Cerro Coso is not responsible for MyMathLab's performance no matter which internet access method you use.

Calculator

  • A scientific calculator such as the TI-30XA or a graphing calculator such as the TI-84 (or phone app) is highly recommended. Students that obtain a TI-84 or equivalent may have a slight advantage with some of the homework problems. However, it is not a requirement that you obtain a graphing calculator nor will it be allowed on the exams.

  • A TI-84 iPhone app is available for much cheaper than the actual calculator.

  • Online Calculators are listed on the website.
