Bonggwon Kang is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Industrial Engineering from Pusan National University, South Korea, and is set to graduate in August 2024. He earned his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Pusan National University in 2019. His expertise lies in system simulation modelling, analysis, and optimization with statistical modelling and mathematical programming in semiconductor/display fabrications, container terminals, construction equipment assembly lines, and automobile production lines.
Current research: Surrogate-based adaptive optimization for decision-making processes in smart manufacturing and logistics systems
Academic recognition: Minister's Award, 2018 Student Simulation Competition (Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea); finalist, BK21 Outstanding Performance Award
Industry projects: System simulation modelling, analysis, and optimization (display and construction equipment industries)
Publications and presentations: IEEE T-ASE, WSC, and LDIC; INFORMS, IFORS, and LOGMS
The above video is a demonstration of my simulation models. I built this automated material handling system simulation in a semiconductor fabrication plant and analyzed material handling performance with various system configurations. In particular, I proposed an optimization approach for prompt reaction of the vehicles to upcoming transportation demand and validated the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can accelerate the simulation-based vehicle management process with improved material handling performance. The research has been published in IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (PDF) and presented at the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, USA.
