For calls, the XPAU Bone Conduction Headphones stand out as my top choice because their dual ENC microphones actively isolate your voice from wind and gym noise better than any other option I've reviewed. If you need a device that doubles as an underwater music player, the FJX Bone Conduction Headphones offer a unique swimming mode that the competition simply cannot match.
• XPAU Bone Conduction Headphones — best for outdoor calls in windy conditions; pick this if you need active noise cancellation on the mic side and all-day battery life without constant recharging.
• FJX Bone Conduction Headphones — best for swimmers who want to listen offline; pick this if you require IP68 waterproofing and built-in storage to play music without a phone nearby.
• YouthWhisper Bone Conduction Headphones — best for multi-device users; pick this if you frequently switch between two phones or tablets simultaneously without wanting to unpair and re-pair.
• FJX Bone Conduction Headphones — best for budget-conscious divers; pick this if you want the same core swimming features as the grey model but prefer the blue colorway.
When I look for a bone conduction headset with microphone specifically for professional or personal calls while moving, the XPAU model is the one that gets my attention first. The standout feature here isn't just that it transmits sound through your cheekbones, but how it handles the audio going out to the person on the other end. It utilizes dual environmental noise cancellation microphones with high sensitivity, which physically filters out background chaos like wind rushing past your ears or the clatter of a busy gym floor. This is a critical distinction for anyone who takes work calls while running or cycling, as most competitors leave you sounding like you are shouting over a storm.
The design philosophy here leans heavily into safety and endurance. You won't feel the pressure points that often plague traditional headphones, and the open-ear design ensures you remain fully aware of traffic and pedestrians. For the active commuter or runner, this balance of situational awareness and audio clarity is non-negotiable.
Battery performance is another area where this model shines for the daily user. It promises up to 18 hours of playtime at moderate volumes, which means you can go days between charges even with heavy use. A full recharge takes less than two hours via a standard Type-C port, so you never have to plan your day around charging cycles. While the bass response might not satisfy audiophiles looking for thumping low-end frequencies, the high-fidelity output is surprisingly clear for vocal-heavy content like podcasts and conference calls. The trade-off is that it lacks the internal storage found in some swim-specific models, meaning you must carry your phone for every track, but the freedom of movement it offers makes that small inconvenience worth it.

The FJX Bone Conduction Headphones take a different approach entirely by prioritizing versatility in aquatic environments. These are engineered for the athlete who doesn't just run outdoors but dives into pools and lakes. With an IP68 rating, they are fully submersible and dust-proof, allowing you to wear them while snorkeling or doing laps without fear of water damage. This level of protection goes beyond simple sweat resistance; it allows the device to function perfectly when completely underwater, provided you utilize its unique MP3 playback mode.
What sets this model apart for the water enthusiast is the built-in 32 GB mass storage card. In many situations, Bluetooth signals struggle or fail entirely once submerged, but this headset bypasses that issue by acting as a standalone MP3 player. You can load your favorite playlists directly onto the device and swim to them without needing your smartphone tethered to your wrist. The connection uses a robust Bluetooth 5.3 chip for land-based stability, ensuring seamless pairing with iOS and Android devices when you are out of the pool. The titanium construction keeps the unit incredibly light and flexible, fitting snugly behind the ears to prevent slippage even in turbulent water.
However, there is a specific trade-off to consider regarding call quality and battery life. While the open-ear design keeps you safe, the lack of active noise cancellation on the microphone side means your voice might be picked up more easily by wind compared to the XPAU model. Additionally, the battery life is rated around four hours, which is sufficient for a standard workout but requires more frequent charging than the longer-lasting options available. This makes the FJX ideal for those whose primary concern is swimming and short bursts of running, rather than marathon-length listening sessions. The touch controls are intuitive, allowing you to switch modes or trigger voice assistants with simple taps, though they require a bit of dexterity when wet.
For professionals who juggle multiple devices throughout the day, the YouthWhisper Bone Conduction Headphones offer a solution that few others provide: multipoint connection. This feature allows the headset to maintain active links with two different Bluetooth sources simultaneously. Imagine sitting in a meeting on your laptop while your phone rings; you can seamlessly switch between the computer's audio and your mobile caller without fumbling through settings to disconnect and reconnect. This functionality simplifies the workflow for anyone managing both work and personal calls in real-time.
The physical build focuses on comfort and hygiene. The open-ear design ensures no ear canal blockage, keeping your ears cool and reducing the risk of bacterial buildup common with in-ear buds. The flexible titanium headband adapts to various head shapes, distributing weight evenly to minimize fatigue during long periods of wear. While the battery life sits at around six hours for music and eight for calls, it includes a quick charge capability that gets you back in action relatively fast. The IP65 rating protects against heavy rain and sweat, making it reliable for outdoor runs in unpredictable weather.
The main compromise here lies in the audio driver technology and range. While the frequency response covers the standard spectrum, the impedance and driver size suggest a focus on vocal clarity rather than deep bass. Furthermore, the Bluetooth range is limited to about 10 meters, which is adequate for most scenarios but might feel restrictive if you are moving between rooms or leaving your phone in a locker while exercising. The controls combine button presses with touch gestures, offering a hybrid experience that works well once you learn the specific tap patterns. For the multitasker who values connectivity flexibility over extended battery life, this remains a strong contender.
This second entry from FJX represents the same core technology as the grey version but distinguishes itself through color preference and specific warranty details. It retains the powerful IP68 waterproofing and the essential 32 GB internal storage, making it equally capable for underwater activities and land-based sports. The decision to choose this blue variant over the grey one comes down to personal style and potentially subtle differences in the after-sales support structure mentioned in the product data. Both models share the same ergonomic titanium fit and the ability to switch between Bluetooth and MP3 modes effortlessly.
The user experience remains consistent with the brand's promise of durability and independence from external devices. Whether you are swimming, rowing, or jogging, the headphones stay secure and provide a premium audio experience through bone conduction. The inclusion of special earbuds and an elastic band in the package suggests a focus on customizing the fit for different head sizes, ensuring that the seal remains optimal for maximum vibration transfer. This attention to detail is crucial for users who need their audio to remain crisp and clear regardless of the intensity of their movement.
As with the previous FJX model, the battery life is capped at roughly four hours, which aligns with typical swim session durations. This limitation is acceptable given the specialized nature of the device, but it does mean it is less suitable for all-day office use or marathon training without a midday charge. The touch controls allow for easy media management, and the double-tap function to switch modes is particularly useful when transitioning from a run to a dip in the pool. Ultimately, this is a robust tool for the dedicated swimmer who wants to leave their phone behind and still enjoy high-quality music.
We compared published specs and features across all available models to determine which devices best serve the needs of someone prioritizing call quality and safety. Our ranking reflects our independent editorial opinion based on microphone technology, battery endurance, and specialized features like waterproofing and multipoint connectivity. No brand paid for placement, and we evaluated each product strictly on how its specifications translate to real-world utility.
Yes, but only if you use the built-in MP3 mode and do not attempt to pair via Bluetooth underwater, as water interferes with wireless signals. Some models allow microphone use, but clarity may vary depending on water depth and pressure.
No, the entire point of bone conduction is to keep your ears open. You will hear your music and your surroundings simultaneously, which is designed to increase safety during outdoor activities like running or cycling.
Most models feature IPX5 or higher ratings, allowing you to wipe them down with a damp cloth. Avoid submerging non-swim-rated models in water, and ensure the charging port is dry before connecting a cable.
Models with Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) perform significantly better in noisy environments. The XPAU dual-mic setup is optimized for isolating your voice, whereas basic single-mic setups may struggle with background chatter.
