Boys Open Football

On Friday 22nd March BHS Open Boys Football Team took part in the first round of the NSW Puma Cup Knockout competition. Matching up against Vincentia High School, it was clear from the very beginning that they were going to be in for a difficult game. After a tense first half, Vincentia High School opened the scoring with a well taken penalty. Not letting this break their spirit, the boys came back strongly in the 2nd half. Brendan L scored two excellent goals (including a absolute cracker from over 35 yards out). Patrick A and Tyler S also added to the score sheet with well taken goals. In the end, BHS won the match 4 - 1 and are through to the next round playing against Bateman's Bay High School. We are very proud of the whole team.

Boys Touch report

On Tuesday 2nd April the Zone Touch competition was held at Lyrebird Park. The boys team were going to have a tough time having to play 5 games on the day with only 1 sub, but this allowed the boys to develop their team work very quickly, and they began to dominate the opposition in the very first game.

In the game against Nowra HS, the tries started coming fast with Luke and Mitchell scoring one each, Jake scoring 2(one off a great dummy), Charlie scoring 3 and Brendan scoring 4(one from a brilliant intercept and another full length of the field sprint). The final score 11-2.

In the second game against Vincentia HS, the boys continued to develop their attack, however it was their great defence which kept the opposition to only 1 try. All players worked tirelessly in defence including Jackson and Jarrod, who also assisted in setting up 7 tries (3 for Luke, 1 for Charlie and 3 for Brendan - 1 off a long cut out pass from Jackson and one off a great set up from Jake, but it was Brendan’s amazing dodging off quick footwork that baffled the other team)

By the third game against Shoalhaven HS, the team was strengthening their team work and were able to continue to outplay the opposition. Tries were scored by Jarrod(1), Charlie and Mitchell(2) and Jackson(3), with the final score 8-3.

However the real test for the team would be the games against Kiama HS and Ulladulla HS who historically are the top two teams on the day. With fatigue starting to affect the boys in the game against Kiama, they continued to fight hard to the very end with Kiama running in a few late tries to pull away 5-2 (Brendan scoring both for our team)

The boys knew it all came down to the last game against Ulladulla to determine who would progress through to the South Coast final series. They dug deep and by now were really showing the signs of only having one sub, but their determination to succeed this year allowed them to keep their earlier momentum in attack going to score 4 tries( 1 for Jarrod and Mitchell and 2 for Brendan). It was the success of ensuring a very tight defence, restricting the opposition to only 2 tries which allowed the team to be victorious this year.

Congratulations to all players for working together so well on the day, and I wish them the best of luck as they now progress through to the next level of the competition at Yass in May.

Rugby League Achievement

Congratulations to Brodie A who has been selected in the Under 15’s Greater Southern Rugby League Team. He will travel to Canberra on the 9th of May to play in the Greater Southern NSW trial game against the Riverina teams. This is a fantastic achievement and Bomaderry High School wishes him the best of luck.
