Principal's Report

Week 5

What a fantastic parent teacher evening we had last week. There was a great deal of positive energy on display, with parents, their children, and the staff engaging in strategic and specific dialogue around learning in the classroom. I thank the many parents who attended to support their children and I also take this opportunity to thank the staff who gave of their time, some well past the advertised finishing time.

Two weeks ago, our school and members of the Shoalhaven community came together to celebrate the amazing talents of local artist and former Bomaderry High School teacher, Dóra Rognvaldsdottir. Ms Dora was commissioned by Mr Andrew Fitzsimmons (Dapto High School Principal) and his wife Ms Liz Cuninghame, who wanted to give back to Bomaderry High School in thanks of the wonderful education their children, Veda and Ruben, received whilst attending Bomaderry High.

Ms Dóra’s magnificent artwork is a permanent fixture located on the side of the administration block as you head into the school from the carpark. Ms Dóra described her artwork as ‘optimistic, majestic and inspiring’. Ms Dóra had many members of the local community contribute to this beautiful piece for which we are extremely grateful for their generosity. On behalf of Bomaderry High School I would like to sincerely thank Dóra, Liz, Andrew and all of the many people who contributed in making something truly remarkable for all of our community to enjoy! Students from Bomaderry High School recognised National Sorry Day, which is held on May 26th by joining fellow marchers crossing the Nowra bridge to the site of Bomaderry Aboriginal Children's Home on Friday, May 24th. We are proud of our students who continued the tradition of Bomaderry High School supporting such significant moments in history. On behalf of the Bomaderry High School community I urge you to take the time to reflect on what Reconciliation Week means to all of us in modern day Australia.

This week Mrs Gates and Jade D. from Year 12 travelled to our Nation’s Capital to attend Science at the Shine Dome at the invitation of the Australian Academy of Science. Jade was one of only 10 students selected from 67 applications from students who are studying Extension Science. Jade is researching the efficiency and sustainability of algae biodiesel as an alternative to petroleum diesel. We look forward with great anticipation in the hope that Jade’s research comes to fruition. Congratulations Jade and Mrs Gates. Please access the link to a fantastic article exploring Jade’s achievement in greater detail.
