Robert Millie is from the UK and has over 20 years of experience in education. He has an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, a PG Certificate in Language Testing, an International Diploma in Language Teaching Management and a Diploma in Teaching English to Adults. He has worked for British Council, Cambridge Assessment, Bell English and NCUK as a teacher, teacher trainer, item writer, examiner and manager. He is currently teaching online and working on test development projects.

TITLE: Assessing Receptive Skills: Multiple-Choice Items

The objective of this presentation is to consider some practical guidelines for the construction of multiple-choice items. It is directed to anyone involved in or with an interest in language test construction. Receptive skills for reasons of practicality are often assessed through selected response formats with multiple-choice items often the most favoured. However, what constitutes a good multiple-choice item? The workshop considers some practical guidelines for the construction of multiple-choice items.
