Laura Holland

Biodata

Laura G. Holland (MA TESOL, Teachers College, Columbia University, BS Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Wheelock College of Education), has been teaching English language for nearly 35 years. At the University of Oregon, she teaches English language and teacher education in the American English Institute and the Department of Linguistics. Ms. Holland is also the external reviewer and works annually with the teachers of ICPNA Chiclayo in Peru. She has published numerous articles on language teaching, mentoring and classroom observation and co-authored the teacher training guidebook Shaping the Way We Teach English: From Observation to Action, published by the US Department of State (2013). She has presented teacher training workshops across the United States, Canada, Peru, Mexico and in Cambodia.

TITLE: Questions and Questioning: Classroom Practice, Optimal Discussions and Critical Thinking

If you are looking for innovative fun and challenging ways to practice interrogative questions, develop meaningful discussions that foster critical thinking skills and independent thinking, and learn new techniques for engaging all learners to produce in your classroom, then this interactive session is for you. Participants will co-explore several successful ways to approach the posing and practice of questions in many formats, ways to make students “the experts,” and move beyond the display question model for practice that can also be used for both formative and summative assessment purposes. Handouts and sample materials will be shared.
