If you want deep, immersive audio with a secure fit for intense movement, choose Boean Headphones; if you need situational awareness and all-day comfort for light activity, choose Monster Earbuds Open AC601.
I have spent time analyzing the technical specifications of both devices to help you decide which one belongs in your bag for studying or your daily routine. The choice isn't just about brand names; it is about how the physical design and feature sets align with your specific listening environment. Whether you are trying to block out a noisy dorm room or need to hear traffic while walking to class, the data tells a clear story about who each product serves best. Below, I break down exactly what makes these two options distinct so you can make a final call without guessing.
• Boean Headphones: Delivers powerful bass with 11mm drivers and an IPX7 waterproof rating, but lacks true open-ear situational awareness due to its sealed design.
• Monster Earbuds Open AC601: Offers an open-ear clip-on design for safety and comfort with Bluetooth 5.4, though it sacrifices some low-frequency punch compared to sealed models.
• Who it's for: Boean is the pick for those prioritizing sound isolation and heavy-duty sweat resistance during workouts, while Monster fits users who need to stay aware of their surroundings.
The Boean U18 headphones are engineered for people who treat their audio gear as a serious tool for performance. The defining characteristic here is the combination of a flexible earhook design and a fully sealed acoustic structure. This isn't just about looking cool; the ergonomic build, featuring four sizes of soft eartips (Small, Medium, Large) and a headband, creates a mechanical lock that stays put. If you are running on uneven trails, cycling at speed, or hitting the gym hard, this stability is non-negotiable. The fact that they weigh only 18.5 grams means you likely won't feel them after an hour of wear, yet the seal remains tight enough to isolate you from the chaos of a busy library or a loud gym floor.
For a student looking for the best comfortable headband headphones for studying, the Boean option offers a unique advantage: active noise cancellation paired with high-quality drivers. The 11mm dynamic drivers push a strong bass response, making music feel expansive and immersive. When you are trying to memorize vocabulary lists or write a long essay, the ability to drown out background chatter is invaluable. Furthermore, the IPX7 waterproof rating provides peace of mind. You don't have to worry about humidity in a summer classroom or sudden rain on your way home; the silicone enclosure and interior coating handle heavy sweat and water exposure better than almost any other device in this category.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you are someone who needs to hear the professor calling your name across a large lecture hall or monitor your environment while studying outdoors, the sealed nature of these headphones might feel isolating to a fault. They are designed to keep the world out, not let it in. Additionally, while the Bluetooth 5.3 connection is fast and supports auto-pairing within seconds, it does not support connectivity with smartwatches, which limits integration for those who track their workouts via wrist devices. If you prefer a minimalist setup where you can hear ambient sounds clearly, the Boean U18 might be too aggressive in its isolation.

The Monster Earbuds Open AC601 take a completely different approach by embracing the "open ear" philosophy. These are clip-on earbuds that sit outside the ear canal rather than inside it. This design choice fundamentally changes the user experience, making them ideal for students who study in coffee shops, parks, or shared spaces where hearing your surroundings is part of the workflow. Because they do not create a vacuum seal, you retain full situational awareness. You can listen to a lecture recording while still hearing your roommate enter the room or the barista calling out orders. This makes them a standout choice for anyone seeking open ear earbuds for studying in public environments where safety and social interaction matter.
The audio engineering behind these buds is impressive despite the open design. Monster utilizes 13mm PVK composite sound film technology, which is larger than the drivers found in many standard earbuds. This results in a Hi-Fi experience that delivers rich highs and surprisingly decent bass for an open-ear model. While it won't match the thumping low-end of a sealed over-ear headphone, the clarity is exceptional for voice-heavy content like podcasts, audiobooks, and language learning apps. The inclusion of Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) further enhances the experience, specifically for calls. If you are taking online classes or participating in group study sessions via video chat, the ENC ensures your voice comes through clearly even if there is wind or street noise around you.
Battery life is another area where the Monster AC601 shines for the long haul. With a total battery life of 32 hours when including the charging case, you are covered for multiple days of lectures and commutes without needing to hunt for a power outlet. The latest Bluetooth 5.4 technology also ensures a rock-solid connection with minimal latency, which is crucial for watching educational videos or playing games during breaks. The touch controls are responsive, allowing you to switch tracks or answer calls without fumbling for your phone. However, the trade-off is the IPX5 waterproof rating, which is lower than the Boean's IPX7. While they can handle sweat and light rain, they are not built for submersion or extremely heavy downpours. If your study sessions involve intense outdoor cardio, the Boean might offer better durability.
• Best for battery life → Monster Earbuds Open AC601: With 32 hours total usage including the case, these last significantly longer than the Boean's single charge duration.
• Best for waterproofing → Boean Headphones: The IPX7 rating offers superior protection against sweat and heavy rain compared to the Monster's IPX5.
• Best for sound isolation → Boean Headphones: The sealed design and active noise cancellation features provide a quiet bubble for focused work.
• Best for situational awareness → Monster Earbuds Open AC601: The open-ear clip design lets you hear traffic, people, and announcements while listening.
• Best for connectivity speed → Monster Earbuds Open AC601: Bluetooth 5.4 offers faster transmission speeds and lower latency than the Boean's Bluetooth 5.3.
• Best for heavy sports → Boean Headphones: The flexible earhook and secure fit make them more stable for running and vigorous exercise.
• Best for calls in noisy areas → Monster Earbuds Open AC601: Advanced ENC technology is specifically tuned for face-to-face conversation clarity.
• Best for immersive music → Boean Headphones: The 11mm dynamic drivers and sealed acoustics deliver deeper bass and a richer stereo image.
In my opinion, if your primary goal is to find the best true wireless earbuds for studying in a variety of environments, I would recommend the Monster Earbuds Open AC601. The open-ear design is simply too versatile for modern student life; being able to toggle between a podcast and a conversation without removing the device is a game-changer. The 32-hour battery life ensures you never run out of power during finals week, and the Bluetooth 5.4 connection keeps everything lag-free. However, if your study environment is consistently loud and you need absolute silence to concentrate, the Boean Headphones remain the superior choice for their isolation capabilities. But for most people balancing work, social life, and safety, the Monster wins on versatility.
The Boean Headphones are better for blocking out noise because their sealed design and active noise cancellation physically isolate you from the environment, whereas the Monster Earbuds allow ambient sound to pass through.
You get a total of 32 hours of playtime with the Monster Earbuds Open AC601 when using the included charging case, which is double the capacity of the Boean's single charge.
Yes, the Boean Headphones feature an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning they can withstand heavy sweat and rain, offering more protection than the Monster's IPX5 rating.
The Monster Earbuds Open AC601 use a secure clip-on design that is intended to stay in place during vigorous activities, though the Boean's earhook design may offer slightly more stability for high-impact sports.
