Airhead Camping and B&B Weekend

BMW Motorcycle Club Airhead Day and Camping Weekend 2018.

15th June to 17th (The Airhead day is on Saturday 16th)

Lough Ree Yacht Club, Athlone.

This is a weekend where BMW Club members and their friends can meet up to discuss all aspects of the older BMW motorcycle that we all may have once had. The idea is to encourage anyone who is into Airhead BMW’s (the air cooled machines pre mid-nineties) to get together with us. We can swap stories and also see if we can be of assistance to each other in any airhead matters. Even if your machine has not seen the light of day for many years or is in boxes in your shed, you are still most welcome to come along.

The weekend will once again be on at the Lough Ree Yacht Club in Athlone. This is our 4th year running the event and it’s growing in popularity from year to year. We purposely choose Athlone because it’s a good mid-Ireland location and we have been very well looked after by the yacht club. The idea is that people can come for the day or for the weekend. The event is open to current BMW motorcycle club members and their guests who are in to the airhead machines. Ideally as many as possible should come on an airhead but this is not essential.

When: 15 th – 17 th June, 2018 for camping, or day trippers can come for just the Saturday (16 th ), you may also arrive on Friday if you wish.

The general run of things is as follows.

People arrive on Saturday mid-morning and we just check in and chat amongst ourselves. Coffee/Tea at the bar. Campers can arrive from Friday evening. We’ll go for lunch in Athlone around 1pm after which we return to the yacht club for the afternoons programme. The programme is not firmed up yet but it is hoped that it will be similar to last year where a number of people spoke about their motorcycling experiences, plus some practical stuff as well.

This is then followed by the “big barbecue” and the award to the owner of the “most desirable airhead”. Day-trippers usually head away and others chill at the bar for the evening.

Those who wish to come for the weekend but are not in to camping can arrange their own accommodation in nearby B&B’s or local hotels. See www.lryc.ie for more information on this.

Costs involved.

  • Camping, €15.00 per single night (payable on arrival) or €25.00 for both.
  • Barbecue €5.00, you need to supply your own meat or we can get it for you i.e. if you are partaking in the barbecue.

This year we are looking for donations from the day trippers for teas and coffee, just to help cover expenses.

There is also an opportunity for people to sell items at the event, especially (but not restricted to) airhead related stuff.
