I draw my inspiration from my life experience as an African American who appreciates all of the art forms that enrich my life. Music, dance, and theater are very important elements in my abstract creations. I gather ideas, make notes, and sketch out designs that become the themes for a wide range of works in a wide range of media. My most recent work incorporates my affinity for textiles, sewing, and collage.
For this important event that strives to elevate the the goodness that comes from my identity as an African American, I decided to exhibit one of my first professionally recognized works, entitled “Strive”. It was shown at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art in 1979, in the biennial juried exhibition.
