Richmond, VA
Marcus-David Peters Circle is an animated artwork inspired by artists Dustin Klein and Alex Criqui’s experiences as part of the Black Lives Matter movement in Richmond, Virginia, where their nightly projections on the Robert E. Lee Monument have gained international attention. The duo have partnered with visual artists Miguel Carter-Fisher and Josh Zarambo, as well as photographer Zach Fichter, to create an innovative depiction of the transformation that has taken place in the city of Richmond in the year 2020.
By utilizing photography, oil painting, digital painting, computer animation, and projection mapping, the team of artists have created an artwork that combines traditional portraiture and surrealism with modern technology. Designed to be experienced as both a painting by day and then brought to life through light design at night, this work was created to evoke the story and spirit of the space known as Marcus-David Peters Circle.
Marcus needed help, not death. A portion of the proceeds from any sale of this artwork will go to Justice and Reformation, an organization founded by Marcus-David Peters’ family who continue to fight for justice for Marcus and Black Liberation.
