I believe that art says more than words ever can, and I have since I was little. Art is so unique and versatile, and there's no right or wrong way to do it. BLM is not a trend or an aesthetic, it's a powerful movement for equality which should be taken very seriously. I've seen so much creative artwork surrounding this movement that's inspiring and igniting. Representation matters, which is why the categories listed are important. I am black, and I am active and engaged in the events involving BLM, and I'm very happy to be a part of the exhibition.

Childhood Memories

As a child, I remember coming home when the streetlights came on, kicking my shoes off outside, and going inside for the night after a long day of playing. However, I was fortunate enough to live in an good, safe neighborhood. As time goes on, I notice more and more kids of color unable to experience days like this. This is because black communities are being ignored and robbed of the attention they need and deserve. Safe spaces for kids to be kids aren't as available or accessible anymore. There are less parks and recreational centers available, and other places just aren't safe. I also believe black children become adults too quick because of this problem. Nowadays, kids just can't be kids. When we were little, the world was so colorful and bright and full of surprises. Now it seems like children are burdened before they've had the chance to experience happiness. Black communities need to be provided with more spaces for young black minds to develop, have fun, and make childhood memories, which is what they deserve. Every black kid deserves to be one. It shouldn't be a luxury.(The Black Pastoral)
