“This little light of mine…” I’m going to share and give you mine. Jessica Salisbury, who runs Uplifting Fairies of MidMichigan, learned her little light could catch flame. What started as a small contribution to women in need of encouragement turned into a community of women, a sisterhood, sharing their light with one another. “I heard women talk about how they felt all alone, how they try so hard to be a mom and a wife. Sometimes they felt overwhelmed because they didn’t have the resources to talk to anyone or they were ashamed because they weren’t like everyone else.” Since 2022, Jessica has been responsible for reaching out to women to connect them with the women within Uplifting Fairies of MidMichigan. “I gather ladies up every two weeks and spend a couple of hours together to plan our next set of projects, [inquire] what others may need help with and connect with nearby resources, make crafts, and talk to each other in a non-judgmental, equality-based environment.”
This Easter alone, Jessica and the Uplifting Fairies of MidMichigan have put together 130 baskets for women and children within Clare, Farewell, Beaverton, Gladwin, Coleman, West Branch, Midland, Sanford, and Bay City through the funding and time of the women within the group. All items are either donated or paid for as a group. Outside of the sisterhood, Uplifting Fairies of Mid-Michigan supports residents of nursing homes by providing baby dolls, clothing for residents and support for individuals. B.J one of the Fairies themself says Uplifting Fairies of MidMichigan is unique for the fact they don’t wait to take action.
“With the fairies, nobody is alone, we are all in this together. Nobody knows what anybody is going through. We all have our ups and downs. Even though you are an amazing woman, sometimes it’s hard to do things alone. With the Uplifting fairies, you don’t have to do anything on your own. We will walk your path with you and help you with your struggles. Don’t ever feel ashamed to reach out to us. Every woman in our group will take time and listen to support you. We are all different and yet we all come together to help one another. Please, if there is anything I can do to help you, any resources I can help guide you to please let me know. I am here for you!”
