Laura Ornelas has a pawsome passion in educating her clients with reinforcement-based training. Acknowledging there can be barriers between dogs and their families, Laura takes action in diminishing those beliefs. Laura has 20 years' experience teaching in Special Education. Her family extends to include three dogs and one cat. Since 2018, Laura has been servicing the Midland area at 2805 W Parish Rd. Midland, Michigan. However, Laura has been working with families since 2008 as a professional dog trainer- Knowledge Assessed, Certified Family Dog Mediator, and Certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Laura currently works on becoming a Certified Professional Canine Trainer through the Pet Professional Guild, as their ethical standards are incredibly high.
Laura states the mission of Sit, Stay, Play is, “to provide families the education and skills to have a wonderful relationship with their dogs.” Laura has found success in breaking barriers and renewing trust in clients who experience severe reactivity/ aggression as a direct result from being trained with punishment or shock collars. She proclaims her favorite part of her work is, “watching the bond between humans and dogs bloom.”
Laura is no stranger to adjusting to new environments as Midland was her 14th in total. Serving the United States within the National Guard, Laura dedicated her time in New Mexico. Laura and her husband, who have now been married for 34 years, spent over 20 years as an active-duty family.
Laura’s lifestyle includes traveling, birding, camping, rock collecting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
