Blank Out ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses, why certain permissions are required, how information is handled, and how third-party services used by the app may process information.
By using Blank Out, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
Blank Out is designed to help users gradually reduce screen time and build healthier phone habits.
Blank Out does not require you to create an account and does not directly request personal information such as your name, phone number, contacts, or payment card information.
Most information related to your screen-time plan and blocking preferences is stored locally on your device.
Blank Out also uses third-party services, including Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics, and Google Play Billing. These services may collect or process certain information as described below.
Usage Access Permission
Blank Out requests the Android Usage Access permission.
This permission is used to:
Measure how long selected apps are used.
Calculate your current average screen time.
Create gradual screen-time reduction plans.
Determine when daily time limits have been reached.
Display remaining screen time.
Blank Out uses this information to provide its core digital wellbeing functionality.
Your screen-time and app-usage information obtained through Usage Access is stored locally on your device and is not provided to AdMob for advertising purposes.
Accessibility Service
Blank Out uses Android's Accessibility Service to provide user-requested app blocking features.
The Accessibility Service is used only to:
Detect when selected apps are opened.
Display blocking screens after limits are reached.
Display scheduled blocking screens.
Display temporary "Block Now" sessions.
Display warning screens before limits are reached.
Blank Out does not use Accessibility Services to:
Read personal messages.
Record keystrokes.
Capture passwords.
Read the contents of messages or communications.
Collect text entered into other apps.
Provide data for advertising.
Provide data for analytics.
Information obtained through the Accessibility Service is used solely to provide the blocking and digital wellbeing features requested by the user.
Blank Out does not sell, share, or use Accessibility Service data for advertising purposes.
Users must explicitly enable Accessibility Access through Android Settings before these features become available. Accessibility Access can be disabled at any time through Android Settings.
Advertising – Google AdMob
Blank Out offers a free version supported by advertisements provided through Google AdMob.
Google AdMob may collect and process certain information to provide, measure, secure, and improve advertisements. Depending on the user's device, settings, location, and consent choices, this information may include:
Device and advertising identifiers.
IP address.
Approximate location derived from an IP address.
General device information.
Ad impressions and interactions.
Diagnostic and performance information.
Blank Out does not provide users' screen-time information, selected apps, Usage Access data, or Accessibility Service data to AdMob for advertising purposes.
Users with an applicable paid subscription do not see advertisements within Blank Out.
Information processed by Google AdMob is subject to Google's applicable privacy policies and terms.
Firebase Analytics
Blank Out uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the app and to help improve Blank Out.
Firebase Analytics may collect or process information such as:
App interactions and events.
Device information.
App version information.
General usage and analytics information.
Diagnostic or performance-related information.
Information about in-app purchases or subscriptions, such as product information and purchase events.
For example, Blank Out may record analytics events relating to progression through app setup, feature usage, or subscription options.
Blank Out does not intentionally send screen-time history, selected-app usage information, Accessibility Service data, passwords, messages, contacts, or the contents of other apps to Firebase Analytics.
Information processed through Firebase is subject to Google's applicable privacy policies and terms.
Google Play Billing
Blank Out offers optional paid subscriptions and in-app purchases through Google Play Billing.
Payments are securely processed by Google Play.
Blank Out does not receive or store:
Credit card numbers.
Debit card information.
Bank account information.
Payment credentials.
Google processes billing information according to its own privacy and security policies.
Subscription status may be used to determine whether paid features, including an ad-free experience, should be available.
Data Storage
Blank Out stores information necessary for its core functionality locally on your device. This may include:
Selected apps.
Screen-time plans.
Daily progress.
Reduction settings.
Block schedules.
Daily time limits.
Streak information.
App preferences.
Theme preference.
Subscription or free-version preferences.
At this time, Blank Out does not synchronize users' screen-time plans or Accessibility Service data to its own cloud storage.
If cloud synchronization is added in a future update, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.
Data Retention and Deletion
Information stored locally by Blank Out remains on your device as needed to provide the app's features.
Users can delete locally stored Blank Out data by clearing the app's storage through Android Settings or by uninstalling the app.
Information processed by third-party services such as Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics, and Google Play Billing may be retained according to those services' respective privacy policies and retention practices.
Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
Blank Out does not sell your personal information.
Blank Out uses third-party services including Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics, and Google Play Billing. These services may collect or process certain information as necessary to provide advertising, analytics, billing, security, fraud prevention, and related services.
Blank Out does not use or provide information obtained through Android's Accessibility Service for advertising or analytics purposes.
Blank Out does not provide users' screen-time information, selected apps, blocking preferences, or screen-time plans to AdMob for personalized advertising.
Third-party services process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
Advertising Consent and Privacy Choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may be presented with choices regarding advertising, consent, and the use of certain information by Google's advertising services.
Where required, Blank Out may use Google's consent tools to request or manage advertising-related consent and privacy choices.
You may also be able to manage certain advertising and privacy settings through your device or Google account settings.
Children's Privacy
Blank Out is not directed toward children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through Blank Out, please contact us so the issue can be addressed.
Security
Blank Out is designed to keep sensitive screen-time and blocking information on your device whenever possible.
Information transmitted by the third-party services used by Blank Out is transmitted using secure connections where supported by those services.
While no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, reasonable measures are taken to protect information used by the application.
Compliance with Google Play Policies
Blank Out uses the Android Accessibility Service exclusively to provide user-requested app blocking and digital wellbeing features.
The Accessibility Service is not used for advertising, analytics, or purposes unrelated to Blank Out's core blocking functionality.
Users must explicitly enable Accessibility and Usage Access permissions before the applicable features become available. Users can disable these permissions at any time through Android Settings.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including when features, third-party services, or legal requirements change.
Changes will be posted on this page along with an updated Effective Date.
