Blakesley v Greens Norton Development XI - Sunday 17th June 2018
It's always great to welcome the Greens Norton team to the "home of village cricket" as it demonstrates the benefit of developing our younger players in the villages. The wicket looked great and the marquee left up from the family fun day on Saturday provided a much needed wind break for the supporters and the players waiting to bat. The newly installed cricket net was used throughout the day and for 2 hours after the game ended proving the purchase to be a sound investment.
Greens Norton opened the batting with a father and son Hayden combination who both batted well before Tim was caught on 38 by a fantastic catch on the boundary by George Speakman. The younger of the combination (George) continued to demonstrate good technical batting for many more overs before being bowled out by Tom Sheppard. This allowed the next father and son combination onto the wicket - the Holton's. Both batted well before Adam retired (28) making way for another family innings from the Stotts. In the field, Paul Langley made numerous diving stops and had to use various body parts to get in the way of some powerful shots leaving him bruised but proud! Good bowling for the young Stott (1-12) and young Holton (1-8). S Pittom had an off day with his bowling recording 0-19 from his 2 overs.
Greens Norton ended up on 123-4 after 22 overs.
Blakesley changed their batting line up from previous weeks allowing the main batsmen to take a rest and appear further down the order. Ali Barnett and Blakesley's young developing cricketer Harvey Wallis opened the batting with both players looking comfortable. Ali (14) and Harvey (11) were eventually out making way for debutante Johnny Spademan to enter the crease. Johnny made a fantastic 31 not out and with his own "rustic" style, hit numerous 4's around the ground, narrowly missing out on a 6 by a few inches. Supported at the crease by Did (13), George (uncharacteristically out for 5), our captain Jamie Cunningham who only seemed to want to score 4's (16) and Jordan Keller (23 no) who gave a majestic technical batting display for the crowds, Johnny hit the winning 4 to take Blakesley to 124-5 with 4 overs remaining.
Blakesely ended up on 124-5 after 18 overs winning the match.
