I've done a relatively quick search around reddit to try and find some discussions on where composers are going to find clients and I've not found too much. I was wondering if any of you had any resources to share regarding finding clients, be it for film, video games or more.

I personally have been using r/gameDevClassifieds and r/INAT to find composing gigs with indie game developers and it has worked fairly well but I'm fairly lost on where to find 'the next step' in terms of larger games / projects.

I have a weird problem with the CCS GUI. If I click on 'Tools -> RTOS Analyzer -> Execution Analysis' or 'System Analyzer -> Duration Analysis', nothing happens. No error, just nothing. I used to be able to get to it through the System Analyzer popup by just selecting the execution graph instead. But at some point this also stopped working. I just found out, I can get it to run through 'System Analyzer -> Statistical analysis' and then select the graph there. Update: As I'm typing (and testing this) this also stopped working... So now none of those tools work. The ROV still works.

On some workstations, the same problem happens. We need to import some files from network storage, but the average Media Composer interrupts their functions and the rainbow death appears. When we disable network connections Media Composer works normally. So we have to copy the file storage on the network, to the local drive where edited, each workstation has its own, and then import into Media Composer local drive.

I have a mac pro and editor MC 6.04. Sometime, it freezes like when is working for a long time. When deactivated network connections, the Media Composer back to work normally. This happens at any time during editing. Sometimes when we open the Media Composer, we need to disable network connections to finally open it, why it freezes while opening. When we try to export to XDCAM, we could only see a window with the properties of XDCAM when deactivated network connections. I edit in the local disk, the network only need to import some files. There must be some setting in the settings from Mac to solve it. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

FWIW I have had 2 Macs (earlier Mac Pro's than yours) on my Windows based server network for at least 5 years. Over that time I have run every Mac OS and MC version. They have always been on the network (and Internet) without issues. I file transfer graphics, audio, and source files on an almost a daily basis.

There is no other network connection, but that which we use for internet, email, and other network resources. All programs operate with relative normality, with the exception of Avid Media Composer and it freezes only when deactivated normalizes network connections.

What appears to be working is; I start a debug session and as soon as the app finishes downloading, click the debug button again. It asks me if I want to terminate the ongoing session, I select NO. Right after I have my debug buttons start, stop, step etc. and I can debug as normal. However, sometimes when switching away from CCS to another app and returning, all debug buttons may be gone again. Once again I click the start debug button and answer NO on the question to terminate the ongoing session, select NO and button return.

SOLIDWORKS Composer allows you to quickly create 2D and 3D graphical content to clearly explain and present your product or process. The tools let you work directly from 3D CAD data to create high-quality illustrations, photorealistic images, and interactive animations, and to import design data.

One of the keys to finding work is to remember that composers, no matter how established, are always auditioning. Every piece of work is a calling card and an audition piece for the next one. Every performance you give is a representation of your artistry. Every person you work with is an opportunity to leave a good impression. Everybody you know outside of work might know somebody in the industry. Every event in your musical life has the opportunity to be an influential impression that leads toward future work. Make sure that no matter what you work on, you put your absolute best into it. Also, remember that everything with your name on it needs to represent you as fully as possible. You never know when an old track will resurface.

On a practical level, there are many ways in which you can position yourself for new relationship opportunities. The most obvious is to surround yourself with people who might want to hire you. If you are selling water, you want to be where people are thirsty. If you are a composer, you want to be where people are making products that need music. The fastest career development happens face to face, person to person. In a perfect world you would be the only composer in a community of potential clients, and over time you would get to know all of them. If you choose a group of creatives and make yourself a part of that group, then over time you will be recognized as the composer of the group. That can eventually turn into work opportunities.

The musician community is another important source of work. Although it might seem like other composers are your competitors, that is not really the case unless they write music very much like your own. The reality is that musicians hire each other back and forth all the time. The opportunity for learning is also a very important factor that makes your community of musicians important. Whether it is a professional organization like the Society of Composers and Lyricists, or a group of band buddies that meets at a bar, having a community of other musicians can give you support, knowledge, experience, and sometimes additional work.

Jeremy Borum is a film composer, orchestrator, music engraver and 6_________________________________________. Among the first wave of working composers to see the digital de-monetization of music as a piece of history, not an ongoing process, he built a successful music career in an uncertain industry that is re-inventing itself.

Composers create musical works that may be performed or recorded by new music ensembles, synchronized with a visual element to create a multimedia experience, or performed as part of an opera or dance concert.

Some composers work by ear, but the majority have advanced training in music notation and full command of music theory and contemporary techniques, whether or not they choose to work within established frameworks. Composers may write for voices as well as for instruments, and might incorporate or rely entirely on electronic and digital music tools. A finished work could be as simple as a solo clarinet melody or as lush as a full-length symphony.

While new work may be purely a product of a composer's urge to create, most professional composers also work on commission, at the behest of a performance group, arts organization, or individual. Jacqueline Kennedy, for example, famously commissioned Leonard Bernstein to write a Mass for the opening of a performing arts center in Washington, D.C. Composers may also work within a composer-in-residence arrangement with an ensemble or other performance group, developing new work exclusively for that group to premiere.

Some say that concert and stage composition is more art than career; the truth is that it is both, and there is far more than a single way to approach this field. Most concert composers begin by completing an undergraduate music program, after which they might set out into the world to work professionally, seek a mentorship or residency with a prominent composer or orchestra (many of which are located in Europe), or continue into higher education to obtain a master's degree, Ph.D., or D.M.A.

Concert composition is a lifelong pursuit. Experienced composers at the top of their field might take on commissions for prestigious dance and opera companies, and have their pieces performed by prominent orchestras around the world. However, success takes many forms, whether that's a resident spot at the helm of a local jazz ensemble, the opportunity to teach the next generation of composers, or a long career spanning many industries, such as musical theater, film, television, or video games.

In order to gain notice and get their work performed, composers might enter their work in national and international contests, seek out composer-in-residence opportunities, become the bandleader for a new or existing ensemble, or even produce their own events. Composers also frequently utilize connections developed during their education and mentorship to get their music seen by music directors and performed by successful orchestras. All said, the path to getting work performed and developing a reputation is paved with numerous collaborations and connections with other composers, musicians, conductors, and live performance professionals.

In one sense, composing is a solitary and consuming endeavor, requiring the ability to set and stick to work hours and to remain comfortable while spending long periods of time working alone. In another sense, however, composing is a highly collaborative art that requires cooperation and communication with a diverse group of musicians, conductors, concert producers, and other composers. The best composers combine these qualities with a deep curiosity about the music around them and a powerful need to communicate something through music. 5376163bf9
