Media Express lets you create as many bins as you need for organizing and managing your media. Separate clips by day, location, take, age and more. Once your clips are organized you can choose the best clips and mark them as favorites, then apply a filter to view only those clips. Media Express can display clips as icons or in a list view. The list view includes columns for metadata like video format, audio channels, duration, logging information and more! Media Express gives you complete control of every video clip in every project across your entire system!

The page you want to look at is the "Capture and Playback" page of the Blackmagic Products page. Any device on that page that says "four analog audio inputs" is a good bet. Media Express does indeed have the ability to record audio and video from an SDI input, and also audio-only from audio-only inputs, giving you a multichannel media file that you can then edit in post.

I have my Intensity pro card connected through composite cables. I can capture footage using media express (The software that comes with the card), and it outputs audio to my speakers just fine when I play it back. I would capture using media express, but there is no way to set a time limit for capturing.

And that's exactly what it's designed to do. When you work in Avid, all media that is either imported in the traditional manner, video captured through tape playback, or transcoded from AMA linkage is created in the MXF or OMF formats, which are essential to Avid's rock solid media file management system. The selection between the two is made at the media creation section of your user settings. So while the "stand alone" associated MXF files may be of no use to you personally, they are at the very core of how Avid Media Composer works. In short, the capture tool is designed around Avid's specific configuration - it is not an "all purpose" independent video tool. And as has been pointed out, you have many options for file formats using the export process.

I'm curious as to how you would somehow capture through final cut pro, while only using the media express to make sure that the capture is working first and than capturing the actual footage through final cut pro X?

@mark_m Hi, I have configured the settings in the Desktop video setup" application. That being the option for an SDI or HDMI signal. As for media express, a google search tells me this is an application that comes with DeckLink models....which I do not have...or can this be downloaded from the blackmagic site? I cannot see it there...

Works for ubuntu 18.0.4 with macbook pro hardware (thunderbolt capture) if your hardware is working with media express then this should work fine. Use the project generator or the update project wizard in qtcreator to add the addon.

The Media Express app runs full framerates and the videograbber example shows 45fps (usb cam). So these seem to work fine.

I also tried the blackmagic addon with of version 10.1 but that also gives only 10 fps.

Are there other things I can try? Thanks for your support!

but that left me with the newest (again 10.11.4) version of the blackmagic desktop video software and also (only because I preemptively copied it onto my desktop ) a working version of the media express software

so far in my short time with it this morning it seems like as long as I have the video input set correctly (via the blackmagic desktop video panel) and media express software preferences set to the same resolution of the video coming in then it shows up and captures perfectly

I have PC ( Asus X99 E WS motherboard) with a Blackmagic Quad hdmi capture card.and Decklink 4k SDI recorder. In blackmagic Media express it shows all the inputs but in watchout 6.6.1, live input it does not show up.

I had trouble getting my Blackmagic Decklink SDI 4k card working. It worked fine in Blackmagic Express, but nothing showed up in WO. I finally got it working by changing 'Digital Video Standard' to 'Custom Video' when double clicking on the input in the media window.

I am using the Black magic Media Player plugin to bring live video into Unreal.

Under 4.21 it works fine but I had an issue with events in sequences not triggering after being duplicated so I am trying 4.22.

Under 4.22 the incoming video is washed out with incorrect levels.

To me it appears that the video is coming in as RGB even though the video capture format is set to YUV.

It works fine out of Unreal 4.22 in BMD Media express and it works fine in 4.21

I have tried multiple frame rates/ resolutions and bit depths with the same outcome.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm trying to get a Virtual production setup, up and running. But facing problem with getting the came input to the aximmetry De community edition. I using Black magic mini recorder4K with HDMI input. I have tried several cameras, Canon 5d mark3, canon 1Dx, Sony A7R3, Sony A6300. But non get to the output in aximmetry. There is just a blank black frame without errors. With no results, I gave a try to a webcam that surprisingly worked. Used Logitech Brio which connects through USB 3.0 and uses type C to connect the webcam. IT worked. So that clarified that the things I'm doing to get the camera to Aximmetry are correct. Besides this all tried to get the camera input into Unreal Engine using black magic mini recorder that also worked. All cameras do show up in Black magic Media express.

I got a BlackMagic intensity pro 4k capturing card, which is working fine with the express tool, I can see the live feed and record, but after I tried different stuff from what I found online to make ffplay/ffmpeg working, I ended up to have just a black screen.

If the steps mentioned above do not lead to a solution, install Media Express using sudo yum install mediaexpress command on terminal. Manually verify that the capture card can detect and playback the plugged in source content in media express.
