EXIT PLAN
The snow was heavy on a small town night
The tree was still up covered in lights
At twenty years young she given birth to a girl
And I was born screaming - thrown into her world.
Fast forward ten years and I'm feeling much older
Cleaning the house - her new babe on my shoulders
With a caretaker’s job - before kissing a boy
Started counting the days - to drown out the noise
I’ll teach you to fly - you’ll follow my lead.
At eighteen the cage flew open for me.
See it’s in my genes, and how I began
I’m the daughter she made - with my own Exit Plan.
Mama went back work - wanting more out of life
I was skipping school, up with baby all night
Met a boy - with an honest kind ‘a charm
Tossed back the weight - fell into his arms
Stood at the altar - in my own gown of white
Saw Mama's tears - and hands held tight
She knew his charm was my get-away car
Cause she’d taken that exit - and come this far
I’m a stubborn seed she couldn't break
Just another version - same ‘ol mistake.
You taught me to fly - I followed your lead.
At eighteen the cage flew open for me.
See it’s in my genes, and how it began
I’m the daughter you made with my own Exit Plan.
See it’s our genes, and how it began
We’re the daughters they made with our own Exit Plan.
