AGAINST MY RELIGION
He was just nineteen years and raised by a strict hand
Where the rules were religious a line drawn in the sand
He had a '65 Mustang a beautiful girl by his side
But she loved dancing and that she could not hide
He says It’s against my religion to step out on that floor
Maybe I’ll be forgiven I’ve never felt this way before
So they built a life with meaning of laughter and grace
He’d found a new heaven in the smile upon her face
The seasons turned to years the car gathered dust
The love that had grown was a thing he could trust
She liked nectar of the vine the way it coloured her lips
So he learned to make her wine and together they’d sip
He said It’s against my religion this taste on my tongue
Maybe I’ll be forgiven for the songs we have sung
So they built a life with meaning of laughter and grace
He’d found a new heaven in the smile upon her face
They built a life from nothing five kids in a row
A home and a family watching all things grow
He’d been taught to never covet or lust for worldly things
But he knew what he had and all the goodness that life brings
As the fifth grandchild arrived and his heart began to swell
He said Darlin’ we’re gonna throw a party ‘n raise a little hell
As he danced and toasted family life flashed before his eyes
From a ‘65 Mustang to the beautiful girl by his side
He said It’s against my religion to have a life so grand
But I know when it's over I’ll have these memories in my hands
They’d built a life with meaning of laughter and grace
He’d found a new heaven in the smile upon her face
They’d built a life with meaning of laughter and grace
He’d found a new heaven in the smile upon her face
