Welcome to Byunghoon Kim Research Group!
Byunghoon Kim’s research group is part of the Department of Advanced Materials Science and Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). Our goal is to push the boundaries of materials science by designing innovative materials and uncovering their hidden properties. We employ state-of-the-art computational and experimental techniques to achieve a fundamental understanding of material properties across diverse time and length scales. Furthermore, we leverage high-throughput computing to explore new materials both efficiently and effectively.
Our primary focus is on discovering advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries. We are dedicated to addressing challenges related to energy density, power density, cost, and stability from the perspective of materials science. Our main research areas include, but are not limited to, designing high-energy-density cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries, developing materials for sodium-ion batteries, and computationally designing battery materials. We also work on developing new ion conductors for all-solid-state batteries and exploring next-generation battery systems such as multivalent, and lithium-air batteries.
