BiteCalz (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how BiteCalz collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our calorie tracking, meal scanning, nutrition, hydration, activity, and weight goal features.
Depending on how you use BiteCalz, we may collect:
Account Information
Your name, email address, profile photo URL, sign-in provider, and user ID when you sign in with Apple or Google.
Profile and Goal Information
Your age, gender, height, weight, goal weight, activity level, diet preferences, calorie goals, macronutrient goals, hydration goals, unit preferences, language preference, and onboarding answers.
Meal and Nutrition Data
Food names, meal types, quantities, nutrition values, water intake, steps, active calories, dates, notes, barcode scan results, AI meal scan estimates, and meal images used for analysis.
Camera and Photo Data
Photos you capture or select for meal scanning or profile photos. Meal images may be processed to estimate nutrition. Profile photos may be uploaded if you save them to your account.
Apple Health Data
If you grant permission, BiteCalz may read steps, active energy, water intake, and weight from Apple Health. BiteCalz may also write water, weight, and dietary energy data to Apple Health.
Purchase Information
Subscription status and purchase events are handled through Apple StoreKit and any enabled paywall/subscription services.
We use your information to:
Create and manage your BiteCalz account.
Calculate personalized calorie, macro, hydration, and weight goals.
Save and sync your profile, meals, progress, and dashboard data.
Analyze meal photos and provide estimated food names, portions, calories, macros, and confidence scores.
Look up nutrition information from barcode scans.
Show trends, statistics, progress summaries, and reminders.
Process subscriptions, restore purchases, and manage paid feature access.
Improve app reliability, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues.
When you use the AI meal scanner, the selected meal image may be sent through secure backend services for nutrition analysis. AI results are estimates only and should be reviewed before saving. BiteCalz does not sell meal images, meal history, or nutrition data.
Apple Health access is optional. BiteCalz asks for permission before reading from or writing to HealthKit. You can change or revoke Health permissions anytime in the iOS Health app or Settings app.
HealthKit data is used only for health, fitness, nutrition, and progress features. We do not use HealthKit data for advertising, and we do not sell HealthKit data to advertisers, data brokers, or information resellers.
BiteCalz may use trusted third-party services to operate app features, including:
Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Storage, and App Check for sign-in, cloud sync, backend processing, profile photos, and abuse prevention.
Google Gemini or similar AI services for meal image analysis.
Apple HealthKit for optional health data access.
Apple StoreKit for in-app purchases and subscription management.
Open Food Facts or similar services for barcode nutrition lookups.
Paywall/subscription tools, such as Superwall, when enabled.
These providers process information only as needed to provide the features you choose to use.
Account, profile, meal log, and progress data may be stored in Firebase or similar cloud services. Some preferences and locally selected images may be stored on your device.
Data sent between the app and backend services is transmitted using encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we use reasonable safeguards to protect your information.
You can:
Update your personal details and goals in the app.
Turn notifications, Live Activity, and Apple Health sync on or off.
Revoke camera, photo, notification, and Health permissions in iOS Settings.
Delete your account data from the app settings.
Contact us to request access, correction, export, or deletion of stored information.
We keep account, profile, meal log, and progress data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide BiteCalz features.
If you delete your account, BiteCalz attempts to delete your profile, meal logs, and authentication account. Some records may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, purchase records, or where retention is required for legal, fraud-prevention, or accounting purposes.
BiteCalz is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice in the app or by another reasonable method.
