Its history begins in 1928 when it was rebuilt as a complex in the west of the Ancient Agora Square. The Bit Pazar was given to the refugees by the Building Association of Refugees of Thessaloniki and was even inaugurated by Venizelos himself.

Two-storey buildings were built in the complex, the upper floors of which were residential and the ground floors were commercial shops. Bit Pazar means "Lice Market", a name derived from the old clothes sold in the shops which were full of lice. For nine decades now, the area, specifically Tositsa Street, has been home to the only stable antique market in the city.

In the evening the square is transformed into an entertainment centre with numerous taverns and cafés.
