Biswanath Dash

I am a theoretical linguist working on the structure of lexical categories and their flexibility across languages. My research focuses particularly on the Munda languages of India, where I investigate how categories such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives are represented and built in the grammar.

I approach these questions from a formal, syntactocentric perspective, where the structure of words and their grammatical properties are understood as part of the larger architecture of syntax. My work draws in particular on frameworks such as Distributed Morphology, which treats morphological structure as closely connected to syntactic structure and asks how grammatical information is assembled across different components of the grammar.

I completed my PhD in Linguistics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where I worked under the supervision of Prof. Pritha Chandra as part of the SynDaC research group.
