Writing Popular Science Articles on the Bioingene Blog
We encourage plant science enthusiasts to submit (nehabioingene@gmail.com) a two page popular science article based on a current plant research publication or an innovative logical concept.
Guidelines for writing the popular article
The writing should be both interesting and lucid. The article should be short but informative. Try to keep it within two pages (maximum 1000 words, one figure and maximum two authors).
The language of the writing should be simple. Avoid technical jargon. In case technical terms are used they must be explained.
The topic can be a study or discovery with substantial findings.
The title of the article should be simple, descriptive and compact.
While writing, reverse the order IMRD structure (i.e., introduction, methodology, results, discussion) that is followed in the original research paper. The order of the popular science article should have the IFRM structure (Implications, Findings, Results and Discussion) followed by a conclusion.
The Structure should consist of
Implications of the findings
Impact of the research outcome on environment and society.
Results of the research from where such findings were inferred.
The methodology that led to the results. Methods and results should be kept very short. The interpretation of the research outcome should be prioritized.
