About this Seminar

The seminar was organized by the participants of the ANSO-CR-PP-2021-04 "Application of deep learning, molecular modeling and biomedical assays to develop small drug-like compounds as potential SARS-CoV-2 main protease inhibitors" project.

At the meeting, leaders of scientific groups from Belarus (The United Instititue of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus), Armenia (Institute of Molecular Biology of National Academy of Science of Armenia) and China (Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of Chinede Academy of Science) will discuss current trends in the application of machine learning to create potential drugs against COVID-19 and share their scientific experience.

Also a special guest of the seminar Dr. Eui-Jeon Woo from Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology will talk about his work in the field of structure biology and protein design.

HOW IT WAS?

Dr. Alexander Tuzikov has presented the research issues, objectives, and project activities. He did also jointly with Dr. Alexander Andrianov a scientific presentation on research results obtained by their teams in Belarus and devoted to virtual screening, molecular modeling and Deep Learning technologies for anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug development.

Prof. Liu Hong and Dr. Wenhao Dai presented extremely important results obtained by their team in the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Science on developing new inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 main protease which are currently undergoing clinical trials. Prof. Zaven Karalyan from the Institute of Molecular Biology of National Academy of Sciences of Republic Armenia told about the main research directions of the Laboratory of Cell Biology and Virology.

An invited guest of the seminar Dr. Eui-Jeon Woo from Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology did a very interesting presentation on developing of therapeutic antibodies based on protein design.

Dr. Li Qian from ANSO secretariat spoke about the scientific cooperation projects funded by ANSO and explained to the project participants the procedure for implementing and reporting on such projects. Members of the ANSO secretariat who took part in the workshop answered questions from the seminar participants.

The half day meeting was attended by 18 participants from all project teams and ANSO secretariat.
