Fruity Pebbles Throughout the Years
Whereas Cocoa Pebbles has mostly stayed the same over the past four decades, Fruity Pebbles has gone through countless formula changes, variants, and additions.
The cereal originally only had three colors — yellow, red, and orange. The cereal used to contain natural flavors of tangerine, lemon, and orange, but later switched to natural orange flavor and artificial cherry and lemon flavor.
Over time, new colors have been added to Fruity Pebbles. Purple was the first addition, in production since 1985, green followed two years later in 1987, “Berry Blue” was released in 1994, “Incredible Purple” in 1995, and the latest addition, “Bedrock Berry Pink” which was released in 2005. There have been many variants of Fruity Pebbles over the years. These include:
- Half Sugar Fruity Pebbles
- Dino Pebbles
- Marshmallow Mania Pebbles
- Bamm-Bamm Pebbles
The Bamm-Bamm Berry Pebbles variant was first released in 2007 and only contained berry flavors. The formula for both Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles saw a big addition in the yar 2006- polydextrose. On 2012, however, polydextrose was no longer listed as an ingredient in any of the Pebbles varieties.
When Post Foods was acquired by MOM Brands in 2015, both the Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles were offered for the first time in large bagged packaging akin to the Malt O Meal line of bagged cereals — though traditional box sizes are still sold in most stores.
