Team MBL (Marine Biogeochemistry Lab @Jeju, Korea) focuses on understanding the biogeochemical processes involved in the global carbon cycle from coastal groundwater to global ocean systems. In addition, we investigate how to respond aquatic ecosystem and marine organic matter to global warming, climate change, and anthropogenic activities. For tracing organic matter origins, point- and nonpoint-source pollutants, and fluxes through system boundaries, we apply optical techniques, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, isotopic approaches, and cutting-edge sensors.

1. Development of Adaptation Strategies for Marine Environments in Reponse to Subtropicalization: Scenarios, Solutions, and Utilization
Duration: 2025–2030
Project Overview
- This project aims to predict future environmental conditions and land-derived material loads under various climate change scenarios in Korea's subtropical marine regions. Special focus is placed on identifying the driving factors and mechanisms behind large-scale macroalgal (seaweed) blooms. The results will support the development of adaptive response strategies and sustainable marine ecosystem management systems.

Project Overview
- This research focuses on comprehensive environmental surveys of subtropical waters around Jeju Island, with an emphasis on characterizing the marine microbiome. By integrating microbiological data with oceanographic conditions, the project aims to build a scenario-based diagnostic and forecasting system for climate-driven changes in the marine environment.

2024년 2학기 해양조사장비실습 과목 현장실습으로 이호테우해변에 방문하였습니다. 학생들과 함께 지하수, 해수, 연안유출수 시료를 채취하고 라돈과 유기탄소, 영양염을 분석할 예정입니다.
