About the RADO Lab
The Robust Aerospace Design and Optimisation (RADO) Lab is a research group led by Dr. Bingran Wang in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Sydney. We develop advanced computational methods that enable the efficient, reliable, and trustworthy design of complex engineering systems.
Our research lies at the intersection of multidisciplinary design optimisation, uncertainty quantification, verification and validation, and AI-assisted engineering design. By integrating these areas, we develop next-generation methodologies that accelerate the engineering design process while improving the reliability and trustworthiness of computational design decisions.
Our primary application area is aerospace engineering, with a particular focus on emerging aircraft concepts such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles and autonomous aerial systems. However, the methods we develop are broadly applicable to engineering design problems across a wide range of engineering domains. Through close collaboration with academic and industry partners, we translate fundamental advances in computational engineering into practical tools for next-generation engineering design.
