We sometimes play a variation called dots. Dots are awarded for fairways hit, GIR, pars, two dots for birdies, and a few other accomplishments that we've agreed are dot-worthy. Basically, you can set up the dots any way you want. We don't worry about things like first on, first in, lowest scores, so it's not exactly bingo-bango, but it does keep thinhs moving, while still making every shot count. For example, even if you've made a total mess of a given hole, you still might have a chance for a long putt or a sand save, or whatever. At the end of the round, just add up the total dots and pay the winner(s) accordingly.

Been a VERY long time - but when I used to play Bingo-bango-bongo - we played 1) longest drive (in fairway) 2) first on the green and 3) closest to the pin for first shot on the green. Sometimes we also played the first in the hole - but that's the one that seems to slow things down the most since to play it properly it requires that you enforce playing order. So it's also the first one that might get dropped when pace of play becomes an issue.

Bongo is who holes it out from furthest away with a max of 2 putts. If you get to your 3rd putt, you're out of the bongo. If you, say, hole a chip and you're furthest out, you'd take the bango and the bongo. Also, you don't need to wait to see how long your second putt is. Just eyeball it after you tap in.

BBB really works well in the context of a stroke play tourney or with a medal bet on the line between competitors. It cuts down on intentionally missing greens to chip for bangos. Intentionally missing greens is not golf and is not the way to shoot your best score.

In this version the first on the green in the fewest strokes gets the bingo point. Then the golfer who hits closest to the pin earns the bango point. Finally, the golfer with the lowest net score on the hole wins the bongo point.

This always brings in strategy as you might intentionally try to lay back slightly on certain holes for the first crack at the green. This will give you the opportunity to hit the green first and score a crucial bingo point.

One variation on scoring doubles the points when a golfer sweeps the bingo, bango and bongo on one hole. That golfer would then score six points instead of three. Another version adds one additional point for a hole sweep. 2351a5e196
