Welcome to BiLaw!

BiLaw is the first national organization in the United States for bisexual lawyers, law students, law professors, and bi+ allies. It is open to all legal eagles who fall within the Bi+ umbrella. A purely volunteer organization without funding or formal structure but filled with fun, queer, brilliant energy, BiLaw came into existence in 2013. Since 2014, BiLaw has convened an annual BiLaw Caucus at the National LGBTQ Bar Association “Lavender Law” Conference, with the LGBTQ+ Bar Association also working with BiLaw each year to present a bi-themed panel.

BiLaw’s work and meetings are not limited to our Lav Law Caucus and panel, but we have also submitted amicus briefs and regulatory comments over the years encouraging greater and more explicit bi+ inclusivity in legal protections and advocacy, educating members of the legal community about the importance of being bi-inclusive and of the needs and issues faced by members of the bi+ community, through such filings and at conferences and other presentations.

In the name of inclusivity and diversity, we are deeply committed to building a diverse membership, including those who may not be able to travel to the Lavender Law Caucus. Toward that end, we have recently started holding monthly Zoom BiLaw chats, which are part social-gathering/support group and part “let’s see how ambitious we can be in working toward concrete goals and progress!”

It is extremely important to us that our active membership reflect the diversity of the bi+ community, which is far from monolithic, but is, rather, a wonderfully diverse population reflecting racial diversity, substantial cross section and overlap with the transgender and non-binary populations, overlap with polyamorous communities, and reflecting diversity in many other intersectional respects as well.

If you have not yet joined BiLaw’s google groups or Zoom chats, we would love for you to do so!

Please feel free to contact BiLaw Co-Founder Nancy Marcus at nmarcus@cwsl.edu to be added to BiLaw’s Google Groups and find out about future Zoom meetings and BiLaw events.
