Bike Shop

Bike shop participants (or the legal guardian for those under the age of 18) are required to complete this Bicycle Rental Contract prior to renting our bikes. The form is available for download or can be completed on-site in the Bike Shop and Outdoor Center.

Yellow Bike is our bike-building program for participants who want a simple commuting bike around campus. The program provides a well-loved bike in need of a little TLC, where we will either work with you to restore it or restore them ourselves. Once the work is complete, the bike is yours to keep!

Participants have two options when choosing their yellow bike; the first option runs $25 and includes a donated bike and the sun yellow spray paint needed to turn your well-loved bike into a clean, mean riding machine. This option has participants getting assistance from one of our Bike Shop Attendants to refurbish a bike from start to finish.

While supplies last, students can also choose from a selection of prebuilt Yellow Bikes and make an as-is purchase for $60 (Non-student participants $85). Prebuild Yellow Bikes are refurbished by our Bike Shop Attendants, prepped, painted, tuned up, and include a replacement bike chain before purchase.

The Bike Shop is a factory authorized bike retailer. We carry many different name-brand bikes and accessories and provide full after-sales service. We carry Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes, Race Bikes, Beach Cruisers, BMX Bikes, Tandem Bikes, Kids Bikes, and Cycling Apparel and accessories. It's been a VERY long time since I'd bought a new bike. I felt it was very important to find one of superior quality at a modest price, as well as one that served my fitness needs as an occasional leisure trail rider. Every member of the staff I worked with was very knowledgeable not only about the components of each model they offered, but the specific use that each was intended for. After researching Trek, I knew that what each staff member had spoken of was correct about the Trek Verve 2 and it was the perfect bike for me! I had to wait very patiently for it to arrive as they are on very high demand, but it was definitely worth the wait! When I picked up my bike, I chose a few additional accessories, which they installed immediately while they explained their FREE annual winter tune-ups. The final step was getting a brief, thorough tutorial of shifting, etc and fitting my new bike to my exact size! Each member of the staff at Smith's Bike Shop were professional, courteous, and patient with my many questions; I never felt intimidated by my lack of knowledge. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting these folks and seeing what they have to offer. I couldn't be happier and am excited to hit the trails!

The UTOP Bike Shop, inside the Outdoor Center at TRECS, is open to all current students, graduate/professional students, and faculty/staff with RecSports memberships. During our business hours bring your bike through the TRECS loading dock on UT Drive.

Through hard work, a lot of creativity and help from close friends and family, The Derailed Bike Shop was pulled out of a bike box and painstakingly built by hand, one component at a time. Locally owned and operated in historic Uptown Butte, we strive to offer friendly knowledgeable service along with many quality bicycle products to choose from. Our combined passion for cycling and customer service allows us to offer everything from beginner lessons to custom bike builds. We assist everyone, from beginners to our professional racers and everyone in between.

With over 200 miles of single track trails in the surrounding Butte area, we have the prime location to test out new products and dial in the current ones. Our local cycling club, The Highlands Cycling Club, has done an amazing job of single track trail maintenance as well as group rides and skills clinics. As a board member for the HCC, the owner of The Derailed Bike Shop, Sara Dennehy, is very active in the cycling community. We are a proud sponsor and participants of the Butte 100 Mountain Bike Race, and assist our local racers (from novice racers to our professional racers) to keep their bikes race ready. We are very proud to be a part of the local NICA Youth Race Team, National Interscholastic Cycling Association, The Copper Sprockets. We sponsor the local PBR race in Echo Lake, Montana, as well SNoFLINGA, 6 Hours of Disco, and many other events. We proudly assist Tour Divide riders with their bike touring needs as they pass through Butte on their grueling 2745mi/4418km trek to New Mexico.

On our days off we hit up the local bike parks. We frequent Discovery Bike Park, Copper City Trails, and Big Sky Bike Park, along with many others in the region.
