The State Capitol Park is one of the best sites in D.C. to take a stroll and enjoy the beauty of nature. It is also home to a wonderful flower garden. The peace-themed Victorian garden within a state park, with an urn & fountain. This garden is the only one of its kind in D.C. It was created by artist Lee Simmons to memorialize the American Revolution.
The World Peace Rose Garden was planted in ca. 1998. It has blossomed into a beautiful garden that blooms with over one thousand different varieties of flowers. Most of the flowers have been imported from California including California Bluebells, California Esopus, California Poppies, California White Clouds, California White Oaks, and California Redwoods.
Some of the plants within this park were placed on the marble floor of the rotunda. Each plant represents a historical personage who lived in the Golden State. Two dozen or more of these marble-floored World Peace roses are planted in the main floor garden. The other area is dedicated to the State of California's State Historic Site and includes a number of other gardens and monuments.
The World Peace Rose Garden was established by Dr. William Ellery Beach, who was a botanist. He is believed to be the inventor of the artificial silk cultivation methods that are still used today. The soil used for these sacred centers and gardens has been bought from the soil found in parcels around the globe. California is known to have the largest supply of this rare plant, and it is commonly grown in many gardens throughout the country.
Within the World Peace, Rose Garden is about two hundred different varieties of this beautiful plant. The building that is located over the World Peace Rose Garden, was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Many architects across the country have incorporated this particular design into their own personal designs. The capitol park also plays a role in supporting the education of the public regarding world peace.
In addition to the capitol park as the location of the World Peace Rose Garden, the state of California flowers that are planted in this space is the official flower of California. These flowers include the California poppy, the California bluebell, the California regal crown flower, the state flower, the California poppy, and the state variety, the Royal Gardenweed. The official flower of California can be seen in the state parks, in gardens in the city, and in bouquets that are given out during special occasions. In fact, the California State Capitol grounds contain over one thousand different varieties of flowers. All of the plants in the park have been carefully chosen to coordinate with the building's design.
The State Capitol Park hosts many events in coordination with world war. A popular annual event is the California State Fair which is held every May. At this fair, local residents and visitors can participate in horseback riding through the streets of the Capitol. In addition, there are over twenty different food vendors selling local delicacies and souvenirs throughout the fair. Individuals who wish to purchase items for their own home can visit the booth which sells everything from postcards and books to birdseed and gift baskets.
In addition to hosting such events, the World Peace Rose Garden is also used as a backdrop for photographs and movies. One movie which utilizes the world peace plaza is the Day I'm Sorry. This film was made by director Terry Gilliam and starring Ed Harris and Anne Hathaway. For its appearance in this film, the United States State Department chose to raise funds for the maintenance of the World Peace Plaza by selling tickets for a free camera tour. No tickets to the official flower garden are allowed, but those who wish to tour the rose garden are given a free camera tour.
