In-depth Bible Discussion Group Recruitment

I am Hanwool Jang (link), an assistant professor at Kongju National University-Singwan Campus (국립공주대학 신관캠퍼스), and my religious background is Presbyterian. That said, you do not need to be a Presbyterian or even a Christian to join.

How In-depth Is It?

The Bible discussion questions I’ll be using are not the usual simple, short-answer types found in typical study guides. They are difficult and require you to think deeply—often more than once—before you can answer (examplary materials has been attached below 'Bible Debate Materials Example'). This is intentional, as it leads to a greater sense of accomplishment and helps train critical thinking.

Is This a Cult? 

A fair question—and one I want to answer clearly. I am a Presbyterian and rely solely on the Bible. I will use the NIV, and we will study only the 66 canonical books (from Genesis to Revelation). Reputable biblical commentaries may be consulted and are encouraged as study aids, but they will not be treated as authoritative or placed on the same level as Scripture. 

What’s Expected of You 

Simply put, what participants need to do is solve the Bible study questions I post ahead of time, and then during the meeting, we will go around sharing our answers and discussing them together. It's okay if you're not talkative during discussions, but you must solve the questions in advance. I’ll guide the discussion, but I won’t give you the “correct” answers. The best answer will be the one most reasonably and logically derived during the meeting.  

To participate meaningfully, you'll need:

• A rational and logical mindset

• Inferential thinking skills

• Motivation to study and check commentaries ahead of time
