Notes from Coach
Hey Spartans!
Fantastic news for middle schoolers (7th and 8th graders)!
Spring football training has been approved!
WHEN: Tuesdays and Thursdays - being April 30th through May 23rd
WHERE: BHS
TIME: 4:00 to 5:30
This camp is exclusively for Bainbridge Island School District 7th and 8th graders. Each practice will be coached by members of the Bainbridge High School Varsity Football staff and will cover Spartan Football fundamentals. It will be an excellent opportunity for those interested in Spartan Football to get a good understanding of our program, and in some cases, prepare for the Summer and Fall. Of course, this is not mandatory, but rather a jump start into Spartan Football for those who are interested (or who just want to see what we are all about).
Any BISD 7th or 8th grader who would like to participate needs to register in Final Forms. "WMS Middle School Football Training" in Final Forms will open on 4/15/24 for spring sessions. Parents will see a big blue button that says 24/25 at the top of their screen that they need to click on. This will get them signed up for spring sessions. They will also want to click on the other sports they will be participating in for the summer and 24/25 school year if you have 9th graders next year. If you have any problems registering, please contact Mr. Ande (BHS Athletic Director) at lande@bisd303.org.
Please spread the word to all interested middle schoolers!
GO SPARTANS!
Very Respectfully,
Coach Dan Schoonmaker

PREPARE FOR SUMMER FOOTBALL
There are some minor changes for this year so please read this carefully and contact me with any questions. These changes are being implemented to ensure we look, feel, and play like a team. Coaches will also adhere to this at all practices, team events, games, etc... All gear must be appropriate for athletic use; these include shorts, t-shirts, sweats, cleats, etc... Sorry, no pajamas are allowed at team events or practices.
TEAM COLORS AND TEAM BRANDING
The only colors allowed for gear this season (Summer and Fall) are Navy Blue, Athletic Gold, Black, Gray/Silver, and White. Please let me know if there are any issues or concerns over this.
For all practices and team events that do not involve helmets, pads, etc... I will ask that all players wear team-branded gear. This includes the first three days of summer, the morning sessions during Spartan Camp, Mondays and Saturdays during the season, and other team events. Shirts, sweats, shorts, etc.. should be the colors listed. If there is printing on the clothing (not mandatory) it should read "Bainbridge" or "Spartans" and be designed to represent the school and/or the football program.
Cloud 9 Sports will be setting up a store in the next few weeks that will include much of this gear. Anything on the online store will be appropriate for practice and team events. I will send out the link as soon as it is ready. You can purchase the amount you feel your player will need to get through the seasons. The only item that is strongly encouraged is the travel sweats that the athletes wear to and from away games.
Also, know that scholarships are available through ASB. Feel free to contact them directly at BHS.
GEAR ISSUED BY THE SCHOOL:
Equipment Issue is Thursday May 23, 2024
A certified and safe football helmet. (players may purchase their own helmet as long as it is Navy Blue -gloss, with a Navy Blue face mask and Navy Blue chin strap. I highly recommend Riddell and have contact information for you, if needed)
Shoulder pads
Practice pants (if desired). Most athletes wear shorts with slide-on pads underneath. These need to include integrated knee pads and are available at UA, Nike, McDavid, and other similar online sites.
Game jerseys
Games pants
Practice jersey
Gear Bag
GEAR ATHLETES NEED TO PURCHASE:
Acceptable colors listed above
Football Cleats
Mouthpiece (always good having an extra in their bag)
Gloves (if desired)
Shorts for practice (no pockets)
FINAL NOTE
Finally, there are a lot of families considering football. There are a lot of students who have an interest in playing but have apprehensive parents. I totally understand this, but here is what I ask. Let's all work together to build this program to its highest potential. If you can encourage those players and/or parents to contact me and discuss their concerns, I would appreciate it. I am aware of the image many parents have about HS football coaches. That is not our staff. We are a progressive staff that trains all year long. We are focused on our player's safety and improving their athletic performance. We instill our team values of TEAMWORK, INTEGRITY, and DEDICATION at every opportunity. Summer football is a great time for them to come out and see what our program is all about. It is going to be a great season of Spartan Football. Feel free to give out my mobile number or email!
As always, thank you for your support.
GO SPARTANS!
