THE BLACKHAWK HIGH SCHOOL

"COUGAR PRIDE" BAND

A guide for PROSPECTIVE

students and parents

Whether you are an 8th grade student or parent interested in learning more about the next step in your experience in instrumental music, a 7th grade student or parent interested in a new and unique challenge, a student in grades 7-12 interested in learning how to spin flag with the Color Guard, or a current high school student looking to join as a new or returning member; there is most likely a place for you in the Blackhawk High School "Cougar Pride" Band Program.

We believe that the Blackhawk Band is for anyone. However, we recognize that not everyone should join. The decision to don the uniform and take up the mantle of a member of the "Cougar Pride" Band should not be taken lightly. A fully informed decision made by the student with support from their family is the best way to determine if band is right for you. This website is designed to present a detailed perspective of the various facets of the band program, the benefits provided to members thereof, and the expectations of each level of involvement within the program in an effort to aide in the process of making that decision.

Scheduling for the following school year starts in early February. However, schedules can be changed if needed.

It's not too late!

We can get you involved with the band program as late as July 1st if you're interested, even if it isn't on your schedule yet.

If you want to do it - we can make it happen.

"The Field is where I Learned...

...how to march one step at a time

...that I must pay attention to others as well as myself

...how to keep my chin up, and my eyes with pride

...how to become part of the music

...that every person plays an important and necessary part

...how to have faith in myself.

Marching gives us so much more than some songs and a uniform. It gives us lessons that we take with us for the rest of our lives."
