At Bellflower Middle/High School one of our main priorities as student leaders is to provide every student with a chance to voice their opinions, accomplishments, and gratitude. We believe everyone on campus has an important role in improving our school. Our goal is to ensure that all students have a chance to express how they feel, whether that is by proposing ideas or reaching out for support.
At the beginning of every school year we host a two-day Club Rush. We set up booths for dozens of clubs to promote their mission. This is a popular event that boosts club memberships. Students are given the opportunity to become involved by joining clubs on campus. Students can also create a new club in our activities office if they feel that the existing clubs do not suit them. We also engage our students in taking part in school elections. This includes positions in the ASB Executive Cabinet and Class President positions. A similar way we allow students to communicate with us is on social media. Our school has a Facebook and Instagram account @WeAreBellflower with over 2,000 followers as well as student-run accounts for graduating classes, sports, clubs, and organizations. We use it to promote our groups on campus to give them a larger audience to voice their mission, to announce fundraisers, highlight achievements, encourage community service, address major stories in the news, and celebrate Buc P.R.I.D.E. We create various polls where students can take part in giving us input on events. As student leaders our ASB encourages everyone of all grades to be more involved and participate in every event possible. Buccaneers live by the motto, “Because Unity Creates Success.” To us, this means that we can be as successful as possible if we listen to the needs and interests of our staffulty and students and dedicate ourselves to improving the school with everyone’s input.
