01 — Is my data and photo private?
Your privacy is our priority. Here's exactly what happens to your data:
On-Device Processing: All background removal runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework. Your photos never leave your device for processing.
No Upload: We do not upload, store, or transmit your photos to any server.
No Training: Your images are never used to train any AI models.
02 — How does the background removal work?
BG Remover uses Apple's built-in Vision framework to detect and isolate subjects in your photos. This is powered by the Neural Engine inside your iPhone chip, which means it's fast, accurate, and 100% on-device. No internet connection is required.
Best results with portraits, people, and objects on distinct backgrounds.
Works with animals, products, and food too.
Requires iOS 17 or later.
03 — How do I get the best results?
Follow these tips for the cleanest cutouts:
Use photos with a clear contrast between subject and background.
Well-lit photos produce sharper edges than dark or blurry ones.
Subjects that are fully in frame work better than partially cropped ones.
Simple, non-cluttered backgrounds yield the best results.
04 — How do I save the image with a transparent background?
After processing, tap the Save PNG button. The image is saved as a PNG file which preserves full transparency — the background will appear as a checkerboard in the app but will be completely transparent when used in other apps.
Process your photo using the main screen.
Review the result using the before/after slider.
Tap "Save PNG" to save to your Photos library.
Note: JPEG does not support transparency — always use PNG to preserve the removed background.
05 — The app isn't detecting my subject correctly. What can I do?
Apple's Vision framework works best with clear subjects. If you're getting imperfect results, try:
Cropping the photo closer to the subject before processing.
Using a photo with better lighting or higher contrast.
Ensuring the subject is the dominant element in the frame.
If the issue persists, please describe the problem in an email to our support address and we'll take a look.
06 — What iOS version is required?
BG Remover requires iOS 17.0 or later. This is because the subject detection API used for background removal was introduced in iOS 17.
To update your iPhone, go to Settings → General → Software Update.
