Approach to Providing Unbundled Legal Services:
Sometimes people choose to represent themselves because they cannot afford a lawyer and they do not qualify for legal aid. Other times people choose to represent themselves because they believe they have the skills and knowledge to achieve success in court. In either situation, we know that individuals who represent themselves benefit from legal advice and assistance in the background. The lawyers at Crossroads Law are dedicated to access to justice and believe that people deserve legal representation that meets their needs. Family law legal coaching can be a more affordable way to go to court for many individuals. Our lawyers will listen to your story and provide you with legal advice so you know exactly what direction to take. We can also edit and draft court documents, write letters for you and provide coaching on courtroom presentation skills. You can use our services once or over the course of your case.
Mediation:
Has mediation training and practices family mediation. Has appeared as counsel in 21-30 mediations in the last five years.
Has conducted five or fewer mediations as mediator in the last five years.
Approach to Supporting Clients in Mediation
We believe that mediation can be an effective way to resolve a family law case. However, it can be an intimidating process if you don’t know what your rights are or how to negotiate your position effectively. We help by providing legal advice, strategy, speaking notes, the development of interests for use in brainstorming solutions, teaching in interest based negotiation skills and teaching effective presentation and communication skills. We believe that people representing themselves in mediation can benefit from having professional support in the background. Unbundled services provide a more affordable alternative to a full retainer with a lawyer.
Cultural Diversity Experience
I have extensive experience dealing with family law clients from many cultures and backgrounds. Before becoming a lawyer I was a social worker and I received extensive training in cultural competency, women's studies and First Nations issues. As a lawyer I have dealt with clients from all major faiths, I have worked on international divorces in which religious laws were at issue and I presently have numerous clients from groups considered to be ethnic minorities.
