Approach to Providing Unbundled Legal Services
I strive to maintain good communication with clients at all stages in the relationship and unbundling process. At the beginning of the relationship, at the initial consult stage, I provide clients with helpful tools, handouts and checklists that help them understand their legal circumstances and how they can reach a better and faster resolution. At the end of the relationship, I provide additional resources and advice to help the client have the best chance of success moving forward on their own.
Mediation: I have mediation training in civil disputes, and am in the process of completing family mediation training. I have acted as counsel in ten or fewer mediations in the last five years.
Approach to Supporting Clients in Mediation
I am willing to provide legal advice during the mediation, either in person or via phone. I am also willing to provide advice before and after mediation to assist clients in reaching a fair agreement, and ensuring they are fully informed of their rights and obligations. My approach to mediation is to be open to creative, flexible solutions and, especially where custody is an issue, to focus on improving the co-parenting relationship.
Cultural Diversity Experience:
I have volunteered with clients with diverse backgrounds, including working with the Access Pro Bono Family Law Clinic, Native Child and Family Services in Toronto, and conducting intake at the Barbra Schlifer Clinic for women who have experienced violence. I practice in Vancouver (and remotely in rural areas), and have worked with many clients with diverse backgrounds, especially those of Southeast Asian and Asian descent.
