Approach to Providing Unbundled Legal Services:
I follow the BC unbundling toolkit and generally think unbundling clients are best served by me acting as a coach and consultant. Most client come to me for something specific, I help them with that and set them in the right direction, then the client and I make further agreements for specific pieces of help as necessary. After the initial task is complete, I most often answer specific questions, provide clients with further resources for their own research, and try to be available to jump-in and do specific portions of more traditional "lawyer" work as necessary (eg. drafting pleadings, appearing in court, assisting in negotiations).
Mediation:
· I have family mediation training
· I practice family mediation as counsel or mediator
· I have acted as counsel in 5 or fewer mediations in the last 5 years
· I have conducted 11 – 15 mediations in the last 5 years
Approach to Supporting Clients in Mediation
As an unbundling representative, I try to give my client's a framework for preparation for mediation, which applies to them and equally to the opposite party. If the opposite party doesn't provide them the requisite information, it might indicate there's something wrong. I would try to be available to answer specific questions and/or pinch-hit, as the client prepares and attends.
Cultural Diversity Experience
I have lived and worked, studied, or volunteered in, among others, Singapore (4 months), Jordan (1 month), and Ecuador (1 month). I was born and raised in Richmond BC, and lived there for over 20 years.
