The EU possibly gets the better deal with the Goliath. It's a ridiculously well-armoured base on slow-turning wheels, bristling with weapons, able to infinitely heal and rearm nearby allies, and even self-repair itself. This means it can calmly shrug off the likes of orbital strikes, stuff that usually means insta-death for anything else in the game; taking out a Goliath means a co-ordinated assault of multiple players destroying certain areas of it before it becomes vulnerable. It's pretty awesome, which unfortunately means it has to be handicapped - in this case by speed. A Goliath isn't the cavalry: by the time it crawls, like an angry snail, across the map to wherever a firefight's going down, everyone's going to be a bit too dead for it to bail them out. Instead, it's the spearhead of a slow but deadly assault on a heavily-defended position. Everything about it is, in hindsight, an entirely obvious addition to this sort of game, but not possible until 2142 loosened Battlefield's waistband to allow for more experimental fare.

Battlefield includes two gameplay modes, Conquest and Titan,[9] the latter of which can only be played online in multiplayer maps (without using modifications ("mods")). Both modes support varying numbers of players, up to 64, depending upon the server a player chooses to join online. The single player mode consists of a maximum of 16 players, which includes 15 AI bots. Commander Mode from Battlefield 2 returns, as one player from each team can apply and either accept or turn down the role of becoming commander. The player in the commander position has vital roles in the game, such as deploying UAV's, artillery strikes, airdropping supplies or vehicles for their team.

I have purchased Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition which includes the normal Battlefield 2142 and Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike. I can play the normal Battlefield 2142 but when I tried to play Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike, it brought me to an EA link but the link no longer existed. I also tried clicking on an icon on my computer that said, "activate northern strike" but the same thing happened. I accessed that EA product activation website and I entered in my account information and my Battlefield 2142 serial code but that didn't work. It just said, "system error, please try again later". I even logged into origin and clicked on product activation and I entered my serial number but that didn't work either. I don't know what to do because I feel like I have tried everything. If anyone has figured this out, please tell me how I can activate my Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike.

Despite the European Union's many victories and progress on retaking their homeland, particularly in central Europe, the fight is still not over.

The newly formed coalition of North America has realized that it can no longer sustain peace on its continent, after more than 27 years of isolation, and has decided to do what both Europe and Asia had feared since the start of their official war in October 2139. North America has to acquire more land space and resources to support its massive population, or face the complete collapse of their society which they have been trying to preserve for so long ever since the northern ice sheet consumed more than half of the North American continent in the year of 2135.
