The Bettendorf Speech and Debate Team is one of the longest running traditions in Bettendorf High School history. Our program was founded on April 18th, 1968. Since the beginning, Bettendorf has been a member of the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). The NSDA is the oldest and largest interscholastic forensic organization in the world, with more than 120,000 high school and middle school students, representing 3,000 high school and middle schools.
The Bettendorf program has been a competitive program in East Iowa, our NSDA district. Since 1968, Bettendorf has qualified more than 100 students to attend the NSDA Nationals tournament. Since the year 2000, Bettendorf is one of the only programs in the state to have students qualify every single year. For the last 3 years, Bettendorf has broken its own school record for the highest number of student qualifiers each year in school history.
The Bettendorf Speech and Debate program is an extracurricular activity at Bettendorf HS. The first tournament of the year is in late September and continues on into March/April. If students qualify to Nationals, the NSDA Nationals tournament takes place in June. For more information regarding our schedule, please see the "Tournament Schedule" link on the left.
